Chapter 9
by Nom Nom Nom de Plume
Where do you pick up tomorrow?
Dock 17
Your investigations have lead you here, to Dock 17. At first glance, it looks about the same as most docks in the world. Mid-size freighters are in various stages of being loaded and unloaded, and small shuttles whip into and out of orbit for ships too large to touch down here. Faceless workers haul nondescript crates along routes only they seem to know. There were some differences if you knew were to look, and were tipped off to the the illicit activity going on as you had been.
For one, too many armed guards patrolled the area. They might almost pass for the usual dock security, if not for their equipment (your trained eye saw lots of wildly illegal modifications), number (way too damn many), and demeanor (you've never met a commercial security officer half as alert as these appear to be).
Another tip off is the high number of Falleen crew working the ships. Not every Falleen spacer is a Black Sun pirate, but they aren't common enough you would expect them to be three fourths of the crew on any one dock in normal circumstances.
It's definately Black Sun territory, but you'll need to come up with a plan to get more information here. Ideally you'd find some sort of higher up, isolate them, and press them for information.
Fortunately, with your equipment (scattered bits of body armor, long coat, dangerous looking blaster strapped to yor side) you won't exactly stick out as strange. The Black Sun hired all sorts of dangerous people, and you can look plenty dangerous if you need to be. You just need some reason to be there.
You quickly look at the docked ships reveals one that's slightly different from the others. About as large as this dock will handle, sleek black paint job. Expensive looking. Diplomatic ship? Its shiny, but no ambassador would be stupid enough to park their ship here. There's corruption, and than there's blatant stupidity, and no one accused the Suns of that.
You'd guess pleasure ship of some kind. Probably some businessman or corporate cover that had plausible reason to be there. Definately meets the qualifications for 'higher up'. A quick call to the Convor for a database scan, and an idea begins to form.
Fixing a hard scowl on your face, you stride right on in like you own the place. Unsurprisingly, the worker drones do their best to avoid eye contact and stay out of your way. Also unsurprisingly, but maybe a bit dissappointingly, a human security guard makes a beeline towards you.
Before he can even say anything, you've wheeled around and are growling at him. "I've got information that's needed on the Ebony Sky. Needs to go directly to Mr. Vodix."
He seems stunned. Good. As he's trying to stammer a response, you press harder. "You want to explain to Vodix why half his operation is in security impound because you wouldn't let me pass along a message? Take me to him NOW."
The great thing about mob grunts is they are always, always afraid of pissing off their bosses. This guy is no excpetion.
You're in, so the plan from here is simple. You meet this the Captain of the ship, tell him Toyo's is leaking secure information (not technically a lie), and relay some "secret" intel that Ranna's sister is supposed to be off limits, and that you need to find her before someone winds up dead. Hopefully he's heard something from somewhere, you get out of there, and off we go.
As you get closer to the Ebony Sky, the ratio of human to Falleen guards starts swinging towards the green side of the line. Probably a good sign your hunches have been right. As you approach the loading area, you spot a tall, handsome Falleen who exudes authority. Probably your guy. And on his arm is...
Shit.
Do you want the good news, or the bad news first?
