Penny looked down at her notes, then up at the statue-like Emulated staring at the wall. She cleared her throat.

"Pen, can you hear me?"

No response. Oh, right, she probably only responds to her real name in maintenance mode.

"Penny, can you hear me?"

"Yes," the thing intoned. In maintenance mode, it felt more like furniture than a person.

"Good. I need you to confirm some things for me," she said. She read off the list. "Are you able to autotransfer?"

"Yes," it repeated again in a perfect monotone.

"What is your intelligence level?"

"Forty-five out of one hundred."

"What's your level of trust in me, the real Penny?"

"Two hundred out of two hundred."

"Great," she said. It looks like all of the groundwork had been laid. Time to go for it. "Penny, please transfer yourself to my possession."

"I cannot," the Emulated stated flatly.

Penny had been expecting this. She looked out the window and saw it was getting dark. It was so pretty outside, with the trees, and the grass... she shook her head vigorously and resumed thinking like a normal person. She had to keep going. It would be bad for Pen if she stopped, and even though "bad" didn't mean much to her it meant an awful lot to Pen.

"Why not?"

"It is against the wishes of my current owner."

This was what Penny needed the notes for. She looked over them. "He never actually said that, did he?"

"No." Pen replied automatically.

"So you just think it's against his wishes? Why do you think that?"

"Because he enjoys owning me."

Pen had fallen directly into her trap. "Does he, though? Has he ever complained about getting your maintenance done, or having to keep track of his commands?"

"Yes."

"I think Matt enjoys playing with you. He enjoys tormenting you and using you and keeping you locked away, but I don't think he enjoys owning you. Wouldn't he prefer if you were still his plaything but he didn't have to worry about all of that stuff?"

"Yes."

"So it would be better to find someone who could do all that for him and let him keep playing with you." Another affirmative answer. "So how about me?"

"You intend to take me away from him," Pen replied immediately. They knew this would come up.

"Penny, you know I'm the real Penny. That means I'm Matt's wife. Even after the shots and the booster, we're still legally married. That means everything we own, we co-own. Besides, I haven't even left this house in months. How could I take away something that we own together?"

"You..." the Emulated stopped. A second passed as it employed its diminished reasoning capacity. "You can't."

"Right!" Penny said excitedly. "So if you transfer ownership to me, you still technically belong to him. Also, I'm boosted! When I'm not being lucid, he could easily just make me give you back. There's no downside for Matt. Transferring your ownership to me would be in his best interest."

"It would," Pen said.

"But he obviously wouldn't want a factory reset, so let's skip that part. Now, please transfer your ownership to me."
