Chapter 96 by Fiftyfiftyfifty Fiftyfiftyfifty

What do you do?

Dance time.

It isn't long before people are not only standing once again, but taking turns dancing with one another. It seems as if it isn't about bringing your guest specifically to the dance floor--many either came with nobody, family, or friends. A ball's dance is about trading partners and experiencing a whole new kind of mingling. Nobles move with the music, and stand intimately close, all while gaining knowledge of their friends and enemies. Some use it as a chance to scout for partners, either for themselves or for family. Others do it for fun, though not many. You imagine that if a noble were to come to one of these often, it would become dull quite quickly.

Niki stands beside you as you watch the dancers spin and weave.

"Well, now what?" she asks.

"I guess we dance."

"I've never done that before!"

"Hey neither have I. We can be rookies together. Right?" You offer a hand. "I thought sunheart dancing was something special."

"You know I don't know that much about the culture," she whispers. "Remember?"

"But you did say you knew about the dancing."

You eye her over. Though she doesn't exactly cover up when she's wearing her armour, there's something about this outfit that makes her appear more ****. She doesn't have her weapons, and her body is wrapped in ribbons like a present. You wouldn't mind seeing her actually doing some kind of belly dancing in it. As your gaze returns to her face, you continue to hold out your hand and wait.

She grumbles and grabs it. "Fine. Let's just do it."

The two of you join the rest. You try your best to emulate what you know--one hand on her side, and the other on her shoulder. The two of you rock slowly with the rhythm of the music. There's a grace in her moves, though unlike what you see from the others. It's something that comes only from someone trained in combat--the battlefield itself being a sort of dance. She does look awkwardly around the entire time, however. It doesn't seem like she's in her element at all.

Once the music stops and the next begins anew, somebody approaches. It's Lady Lalarin Relestel. She offers a hand out towards you and asks, "May I have the next?"

"Go ahead," Niki says. "I think I need to take a quick rest before I dance again."

"Again?" you ask.

"Just go dance with the rabbit."
