John POV

Your mother had been partially responsible for stocking the loft with so many supplies, you were all set. So you tried to remind yourself to be grateful for what she had done for you.

She would constantly show you the latest news on her phone. And the worst part was that it wasn't even real news, it was all posts from social media. And she believed all of it, her "Reading Disorder" is annoying.

"Oh my goodness, it's worse than we ever imagined. Look! This virus was engineered in a secret lab in China."

You tried to make light of things. "Sure, and it's all part of some CIA conspiracy."

Instead of being offended, her face lit up. "That makes perfect sense! They released the virus to weaken their enemies, but now it's backfired and it's here... Unless... Do you think it's all an inside job?"

Oh god, not this shit again, you thought.

"Look, mom, for all I know this virus could be mother nature's way of getting us to return to the natural world."

You laughed but your mother wasn't laughing. No, she was deep in thought. Then she looked at you dead in the eyes.

"We can't take any chances. If this really is all natural, we need to get back to nature before it makes us!"

You asked what she was on about but then she started stripping off her shirt.

"I'm going au naturale, John. I've seen the photos. 'Dolphins in the Venetian waterways.' 'Smog-filled skies turned blue and clear.'"

She was down to her bra and panties now. "John! Hurry up! Take your clothes off before the virus gets you!"

"But mom..."

"Now, John!"

You did as you were told so as not to upset her further. She could get so worked up about things.
