It's not pornography, it's art

Two hours later, Karen looked up from her computer. "Here's something interesting. Do you know that Ulysses by James Joyce was banded as pornography when it was first published in the US?"

"Uh, no. You know we're taking Biology and Trig this summer, not English Lit, right?"

"Of course. But do you know that _Ulysses _is considered one of the great works of modern literature?"

"Amazingly I did not know that. Perhaps I'll have some free time when I get locked up and I'll be able to settle down and do some serious reading."

"Come on, Matt. You're not thinking. Ulysses was banned as pornography but a judge later overruled that because Ulysses is art. So, if what we're doing is art, it's not illegal, by the same logic."

"The Supreme Court has ruled that child pornography is not protected speech."

"But we're not doing child pornography. The point is, I think that if Mrs. Fellers understood that we are creating art rather than pornography, she would back off and be more supportive. Rich people are supposed to be appreciative of the arts. Even if they don't really understand or like art, it's part of their social circle thing to pretend they like it."

"Maybe." He turned to Tanya. "You know a lot more about rich people than we do. Is Karen right?"

Tanya shrugged which, in Matt's opinion, was a brilliant thing to do considering that she was still topless and the shrug did all sorts of interesting things to her chest.

"A lot of the people who work with my dad are nutso about art. And Karen is right, they may not understand it and they probably don't really like it at all but it shows class to pretend to get some cosmic meaning out of it all."

"Fine." Matt wasn't convinced but he was convinced he had to do something and this was the only idea they'd come up with so far other than his own sarcastic suggestion that he flash Mrs. Fellers. Art sounded better than an arrest for exposure. "Uh, how do we persuade anyone that masturbating is art?"

Karen giggled. "Want to know the funny thing?"

"Yeah, I could do with a laugh."

"The reason _Ulysses _was banned was because it described masturbation."

"Okay, that is irony or something. But we're going to have to do better than that. Come on, let's see if we can put together a story on how our particular brand of porn is not really porn at all but great art."

"Maybe my dad could help with that," Tanya suggested. "He's been persuading people that naked girl-boobs are art for decades now."
