Alarms start blaring, but security should be slowed down enough to get a message out to anyone on the science team.

Your hands fly across the panel to activate the comm system. Since everyone usually wears their comm badges, using a console to communicate with crew members was rarely used and the option was buried under several menus due to neglect. You have **** but to use it since your badge is somewhere else thanks to your incarceration.

"Brig to science. Is there anyone there?" You say into the speaker.

"Ensign Emily Parker here. Who is this? There's an emergency in your area." A voice came after a few seconds.

"Emily! I need you to do me a favor and scan the planet's coast lines for life signs."

"Is this the second officer? Aren't you supposed to be in a cell?"

"I'll explain later. There's psionic life in the water. Whatever it is, it gained control of me and the captain."

"I don't know. I don't think I'm even supposed to be talking to you."

"Please, Emily." You sounded ****.

"It'll take a few minutes, but I can't guarantee anything."

"Thank you!"

The doors to the brig opened and several security guards run in with phasers drawn. One of them fires at you but duck down to avoid the shot.

"I give up!" You yell. It's a little lame, but you don't have much choice. At least you aren't stunned and you can delay your arrest until Ensign Parker reports her scans.

"Slide your phaser away toward us." The head of security commanded.

"On one condition," You say from behind the console. "Activate a psionic dampening field in this room."

"There's no reason to do that. Give us your phaser or will will fire on you."

Of course he would say that. Besides myself and my away team, there really is no reason to believe psionics are at play.

"Where's the away team? What happened to them?" At least there should be an answer to this one.

"They're **** in sick bay. This is your last warning."

Please, Emily, get those scans done soon.

"Okay," You slowly wave your phaser above your head. "I'm going to slide it to you."

You place the phaser against the floor and get ready to slide it when the comm system comes to life.

"Science to brig. The scans of the coast line were completed. There are signs of psionic life and there is a signal in the brig matching the resonance found just off the coast of the village the away team investigated."

Emily, you angel!

"Am I going to get that dampening field now?" You ask and slide over your phaser and stand up.

"No," the chief of security said keeping his phaser trained on you. "You've clearly influenced another crew member to give us false information."

Your eyes go wide in disbelief.

"This is an act of mutiny and the punishment is ****." He stared coldly at you.

"Sir?" One of the security officers asked. Everyone except for the chief of security were giving confused looks.

"Set phasers to kill, ensign."

"Sir, mutiny requires a hearing before sentencing," said another officer.

"This is different. This man has obviously influenced several crew members to join him. Letting him live will only cause further rebellion."

"No. This isn't right," said the same officer. "Security to bridge, activate a psionic dampening..."

The chief of security turned and fired on the officer. The hit threw him back into the wall.

You jumped behind the console for cover while two of the security officers jumped on their boss and brought him to the ground. They probably didn't realize that they would be controlled soon, but not if that dampening field was up.

"Bridge! Raise a psionic dampening field now!" Someone yelled.

The lights dimmed to power the dampening field. The room felt as if a presence left and everyone went still as if expecting more of a show.

You emerge from cover and tell the officers to get off the chief before checking on the injured crewman. The phaser hit left him in critical condition, but he should pull through.

Captain Miller and the chief of security both woke up without any memory as to how they got in the brig. Both were feeling the pain of the injuries sustained while they were controlled and Miller became nauseous after learning why her uniform was damp.

With the dampening field still raised, Massachusetts launched a satellite in orbit around Kell to warn anyone in the system about the nature of the aquatic life. Unfortunately, Astrofleet forbids the destruction of pre-warp life no matter how threatening they could become. Miller argued furiously with an admiral over this decision. She cited that the species is technically warp capable now since she believe they stole Astrofleet's library of information from the minds of everyone that monster controlled, but the admiral being an admiral refused to listen.
