Chapter 21

Life moves on
Class time
Waking up and knowing that my weekend would be fruitful and that I’d be able to relax made me feel a lot better about the rest of my day. Walking into campus I felt pretty good, making my way over to the art building. I spotted Daisy again but only passing by. The cold of our last encounter was still going through me. Her too apparently considering how she brushed passed me so quickly. But I wouldn’t let seeing her keep me down, I couldn’t. Mr. Leeman greeted me with a wave once I came in.
“Hey Mr. Leeman”
“You seem better Mike. What’s new?”
“Not much. Just feeling a bit reassured.”
“Good, You’re done with that symbol I see” I had finished the lock symbol a while ago, I left it to dry this past weekend. I was planning on taking it in and giving it to Lily. Ash was my next project. Not sure what I wanted to make for her. I didn’t know what she liked, or what size it should be. It occurred to me that I should do more asking next date. Slating that I decided to sketch out something else. I wanted something warm. But for the winter. There hadn’t been a proper storm rolling through just yet but it was getting cooler. I wish we had snow more often. So I decided to draw just that.
“Glad to see you doing a new piece.”
“Ya, I have another I want to do, but don’t know what to do for it.”
“A specific one, for a who presumably. And a new who if you don’t know what… So how are you gonna find your what about this who?” I was grinning at this point.
“You’re having fun?”
“I do enjoy clue so, Yes.”
“Well I’ll see them this weekend. So I plan to talk to Mrs. Sapphire then.”
“Well Mr. Vermouth, I hope you’re successful.” Mr. Leeman was one of the fun teachers who put on movies once a month and showed “classics”. Hence why I had at this point in my life seen the clue movie more times than I had anticipated. It wasn’t long after that the bell rang and I had to move onto my day.
It was relatively boring across the board. Math was math, not really my best subject but It’s not 100% my future field. Walking out I saw Ash who handed me a note. I suppose this was our way of communicating during classes etc.
“Don’t want to risk my phone, but when do you wanna go see the movie? I’m thinking like, saturday and then dinner after if that’s cool with you?” She put a doodle on the end, far more detailed than the normal emote she uses. This one actually had arms and legs. It was cute. I wrote out my response on another sticky note. Doing a little doodle of her on it since I was largely just responding with a “that sounds good!” I hadn’t done cartoon kinda stuff much aside from a sampler early on in my art classes. I also PS’d that fact and folded the note into my pocket.
History was fun just because my teacher had a penchant for diving deeper into facts about the topic than one normally should.
“And you Mr. Pryce? Who do you think was responsible for the thirty years war?” Ms. Faudry had caught me distracted. I genuinely had no idea so I went with old reliable.
“The different religious groups of the time?”
“Close, and while the catholics and protestants were involved. It was the Habsburgs who were at fault for this one. A family in general responsible for throwing europe into war.” Ms. Faudry like to catch students off guard. Her rants were legendarily seemingly irrelevant but for those who were paying attention were actually incredibly rife with value. She easily had her own little group who’d hang out in her room at lunch time.
“Pst” Rick had decided now of all times was a decent one to try and ask me something. Rick had been sitting next to me after he got moved over here for talking too much to his friend who sat next to him.
“Pssst, who’s the note for?” I wasn’t the biggest fan of Rick on good days. He was a jock who was banking on that getting his future secured. And with how it had been going. That was likely going to happen. I was giving him the silent treatment. With how he was acting and the face he was wearing. I’d probably need to hand off the note later. I just went back to taking notes and trying to actually be a student.
Not long after that the bell rang yet again. Getting up I made the smart play of going up to Ms. Faudry to ask a clarification question. Rick wouldn’t be sticking around just to find out who I was passing this off to. After finding out a bit more about the Habsburgs I wrote another note before leaving and made my way to my locker. It was the last break of the day so I had the time. Rick was headed over to the gym since it was a game day. Ash was distracted by other cheerleaders by a classroom. She shot me a look to back off. If I didn’t know better she’d be pissed at me for something. But I had a feeling she wasn’t, that she wanted me to back away so nothing would get suspected. I snuck my way past her locker and slipped the notes in. Doing my best to stay stealthy I headed to my locker and back to the art building. The whole afternoon was chaotic at this point. I was ready to relax in the art room.
