Chrissy Costanza

Christina Nicola "Chrissy" Costanza (born August 23, 1995) is an American singer, songwriter, and musician. She is best known as the lead vocalist and primary songwriter of the rock band, Against The Current. She is also a YouTube personality. Her self-titled YouTube channel, where she posts vlogs and beauty tutorials, currently has over 2,000,000 subscribers.

Early life :

Chrissy Costanza was born on August 23, 1995, in New Jersey, the United States into an Italian American family. She has a brother named Michael (Mikey) Costanza. Growing up, it was one of her dreams to become a musician. She met current band members Dan Gow and Will Ferri through a mutual friend.

Career :

2011 :

Costanza was introduced to Dan Gow and Will Ferri through a mutual friend in 2011, joining their band. Singers had been in and out of the band before her. Their Manager Mike Ferri (Will's brother, member of band We are the in Crowd) suggested the name, the name was inspired by a quote from The Great Gatsby, "So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past" and as the book The Great Gatsby was their first common interest, they went with the name, Against The Current soon started to write original songs, whose lyrics were mostly written by Costanza. They also started to post covers of popular songs on YouTube.

2012 :

Against The Current released their first single "Thinking" in 2012. Costanza wrote the lyrics and said the song was very personal to her. It was not until they released "Thinking" that the band started to gain a sizable amount of subscribers on YouTube. Later, in 2012, they did a cover of "Good Time" by Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen.

2013 :

Against The Current released two more singles, "Guessing" and "Closer, Faster". They also released numerous covers of pop songs during this period. Meanwhile, Costanza made a self-titled YouTube channel and started posting beauty videos. During the summer of 2013, Against the Current went on tour with Alex Goot. During the tour, they performed several new original songs such as "Something Different", "Mercy", and "Infinity", but "Something Different" and "Mercy" never got released as singles or released on their debut EP.

2014 :

On May 27, 2014, Against the Current released their first EP, Infinity. On June 6, Costanza made an appearance on Access Hollywood. In the fourth quarter of 2014, Against The Current released an acoustic version of the Infinity EP and they went on The Outsiders Tour with The Ready Set. During the tour, Costanza went on stage with The Ready Set to perform a cover of "I Wanna Get Better" by Bleachers. Against The Current debuted "Gravity" and "Talk" from their second EP. Through December 1–8, Against The Current headlined their first tour in the UK.

2015 :

In February 2015, Against The Current released their second EP, Gravity. Following the release of the Gravity EP, Against The Current co-headlined a tour with Set It Off. At the end of April 2015, Against The Current had signed a record deal with Fueled by Ramen. In May, Against The Current released an acoustic version of the Gravity EP. At the end of August, they embarked on their first world tour, the "Gravity World Tour". On the first night of the tour, Against The Current debuted a new original song called "Outsiders". In October, Against The Current released "Outsiders" as their first single since signing with Fueled by Ramen. Since the release of "Outsiders", it has become one of their best selling singles. During the U.S. leg of the "Gravity World Tour", Against The Current debuted "Runaway", which would later become the first single off of their debut album.

2016 :

Against The Current released their debut album In Our Bones on May 20, 2016. In May, following the release of their debut album, Chrissy performed live with Alex Goot on his tour on several occasions. They performed "Running With the Wild Things", "Runaway", "Wasteland", "Forget Me Now", "Gravity", and a cover of "Sorry" by Justin Bieber. In June, Against The Current traveled to the UK to perform on Radio 1's Rock All Dayer. While they were in the UK, Against The Current was asked to play the last minute set at the Download Festival. Kerrang!, a UK-based magazine devoted to rock music, says that the band are "writing their future", and described Chrissy as "Their Fearless Frontwoman". At the end of June, Rock Sound announced that Chrissy would receive her own column in their monthly magazine to talk about Against The Current's debut album, writing her own lyrics for the band, touring, and giving advice on how aspiring bands can be successful. On June 24, Against The Current played their first show on Vans Warped Tour 2016. On July 22, Chrissy performed "Sad Song" with We the Kings during their set.
