Mr Wilkins explained to everyone gathered the situation. "A crime has been committed. The concerns are that students need to be in school. Since your crime is nonviolent, you are eligible to avoid arrest and a trial. Just recently the school board, city council, the township council's, police and the court passed an alternative punishment. You can choose to be arrested or accept the alternative. That is why we have Officer Nelson with us. She is the new liaison between all of the entities involved. If you accept to have a hearing she will meet you at the police station to be processed. If you choose the alternative you will not have a criminal record. If you choose the alternative you will be informed of the punishment in a day or two."
