Chase it off with magic

In the grand spirit of "break down the door" adventuring, you decide to shoot the griffon now and reap whatever is sown.

"Una, stay behind me and get ready to run for it."

"Run for what?"

You let loose a lightningbolt spell.

The thunder is enough to get the griffon to nearly leap out of its skin, and the shock to the side has it rocket up and away in fright.

"Come on!"

You sprint for the rocky outcrop, the pockmarked wall proving easy to climb up. At the top of the outcrop is a twig lined hollow, and inside it is a collection of shining gemstones, packed around enormous eggs.

Una gasps when she scrambles up next to you to look.

"Told you, now grab some of them and let's go, before it comes back."

Una nods and climbs into the nest, while you sweep up some of the loose gems at the edge with your arm, stuffing them into your pack.

When you collect everything in easy reach, you call Una to follow you down, then clamber off the side.

"Tolin, need help."

You look up to see your goblin lover looking for a way down, with an enormous green egg in her arms.

"Una no! That's not a-"

There's a screech in the air as the griffon swings back down.

Una starts at the noise and teeters on the edge, before falling off the outcropping. You manage to catch her alright, but the egg smashes to a pulp at your feet.

Shit.

The griffin lands on the ground next to you, hissing as it takes in the sight of the broken egg. It rears on you, but you've already let fly a wind spell that tosses it back.

"RUN!"

You and Una make for the closest tunnel and scramble up the path as fast as you can from the griffon. You hear it's angry screech and the flapping of it's wings behind and over you. You don't know how to get away from it.

"Tolin, the cave!"

You turn to see Una change course and head for a low cavern entrance you were about to run past. You bring up her rear as she gets down to crawl in.

You follow after her just as the griffon dives at you, talons scraping the rock where your legs were the instant after you're all in.

The griffon roars in outrage, and again with you shoot a fireball to keep it from crawling after you. Finally, it admits defeat, and wings off again.

You and Una collapse with relief.

"Tolin Master, never pick fights with giant monsters again."

"I'll keep the risks in mind from now on."
