Chapter 3: Welcome Home

When I returned home the next evening, a warm welcome awaited me. Everyone was propped together in our small living room: My mother, aunt, sister, nieces, my best friend Lila, some classmates, The neighbors, and my teacher who had been leading the camping trip in the mountains. He stepped forward and shook my hand.

“Good to see you again Jonathan.” He said smiling. “How are you feeling.”

“I’m on a roll,” I said, joking with my wheelchair. He laughed. “Good to hear. I have spoken with your mother and when you are ready we will gladly welcome you back to class.”

“Thank you, mister Jones, but if you don’t mind, school is at this moment, not my priority.”

“No of course not.” He said quickly. “Get well first.”

“Thank you,” I replied and rolled further into the living room.
