Chapter 10
by
Zingiber
What happens?
Cathy is flushed and cornered.
Amy holds you back from charging Cathy's door. The pale redhead is stronger than her 'languid artist' looks and she brings you up short. "Won't work. They reinforced 'em when Widley went co-ed. Besides, YOU'd be the one in jail."
"What do we do?" you whisper harshly. "They're DEGRADING Ellen!"
Amy lets you go and dances forward a few steps to a red box on the wall. She flips up the lid and pulls the fire alarm.
The blare of electric horns fills the corridor. Spotlights snap on next to the stairway doors. Amy retreats, pulling you round the corner. Doors start opening further away down the hall, but nothing happens near you right away.
After a short wait with the blaring horns, you hear Cathy's door open, followed by the firm click of heels. "I was never here!" a low woman's voice says sharply.
Turning the corner away from you, you see a woman with chestnut brown hair and a disarranged skirt-suit, clicking away down the corridor in three-inch spike heels and wrinkled stockings.
"Jane Stockman, that bitch," Amy hisses. "I ought to push her down the stairs. She puts Cathy up to half the nasty shit she pulls."
"Where's Cathy?" you ask.
"Getting her clothes on and grabbing her fucking bullhorn," Amy says, leaning close to you in the blare of the horns. "R.A.'s the floor monitor in a fire. If the alarm doesn't bring her out, she's got some explaining to do."
You reply hotly, "I think she should be doing some explaining right now. With what we heard, Cathy should be the one risking getting kicked out of the dorms. Out of Widley!"
Amy's face changes. Her freckled cheeks dimple with an angry grin. "You're right, mister," she says. "Let's grab her as she's coming out."
You follow Amy to Cathy's door. When the resident advisor steps out, Amy grabs her arm and twists it behind her back and pushes Cathy up against the wall.
"What the hell are you pulling, Amy!" Cathy protests in the blare of the fire alarm. "Let me go now or you're history!" Cathy doesn't seem to have noticed you.
"Your number is up, Swanson," Amy says. "I'm putting you under citizen's arrest for ****."
You slip into Cathy's dorm room. There are several (strictly forbidden) candles burning. Ellen is huddled in a corner. Her eyes are red and her cheeks are streaming with tear tracks. Bruises and dots of congealed wax mark her bare breasts. You want to cry, seeing her magnificent breasts abused like this. You squat down next to her and she collapses into your arms, sobbing. You **** up to see her like this, and your voice breaks as you try and reassure her. You can't find her blouse, but you help her into her soft clingy red turtleneck sweater.
"You're dreaming," Cathy says. "Nobody's going to believe you."
"Not just me," Amy says. "Lynn and Marcie have been waiting in line to tell what you did to them. Who's going to back you up? Jane 'I was never here' Stockman? How do you think she got kicked out of her sorority?"
"Not so fast, Amy," Cathy snarls. "Are you ready for everything to come out about you?"
"I have nothing to hide. Let's all tell our stories to the cops and Resident Housing," Amy says.
"And how about darling little Ellen? Is she ready for the truth to out?" Cathy says with a cruel little laugh. "Let's all talk this one out. Your room, perhaps?"
"What kind of B.S. are you trying to feed me, you fake bitch?" Amy says. "We're all going downstairs to talk with Ms. Hunting, right now."
You recall Ellen mentioning her building manager, Althea Hunting, as a no-nonsense kind of woman.
Cathy clears her throat.
What can Cathy mean? Can she talk her way out?
