Chapter 17 by MidbossMan MidbossMan

Who would you like to use this time to catch up with?

Catch up with Vaarvel

You decided to spend your time checking in with Vaarvel. {if CEDIT Agents Killed Adder Adjutant = 1}After all, she'd seemed extremely, uncharacteristically riled up by the death of Adder Adjutant. You had to make sure she was back to her usual behavior and, furthermore, that the injury to her head hadn't left any lasting damage.{endif}

Vaarvel picked up almost immediately, as if she'd somehow anticipated you'd be calling during this moment, or as though she was hanging over your shoulder, waiting for you to do so. Feeling disturbed, you looked back and forth a few times to verify she wasn't there. Your reaction got a laugh from her. "Oh, Nathaniel... I'll never get tired of seeing you jump at my shadow. Never change," the sultry South African encouraged you, wearing her typical demeaning grin and resting her chin upon her fist. The feeling was vaguely as though she was watching you from the outside of a fish-tank, rather than through a monitor. In the past, it would have been frustrating to be treated this way, but... you'd actually gotten pretty used to it by now. It was just a routine between the two of you, and your acceptance of it, as long as it remained harmless, had become like a sign of friendship between the two of you.

When she asked how the meeting went, you answered: smoothly. In fact, dream-like. It was still hard to believe that not only had you survived this assignment, but furthermore, you'd become some kind of celebrity within your own organization. The Goodbye Girls, too, had moved from mythical troublemakers to a desired asset of every nation.

"Hm hm hm! I take that to mean someone is vying to relocate us? I'd like to go to Hawaii... Did CEDIT of Hawaii show any interest?"

You wondered if she was trying to trick you into thinking there was a CEDIT Hawaii or if the joke was face level. You told her that there could be changes coming, but for now, it was all in the planning stages. You were sure the team would get a voice when the time came, so there was no reason for her to worry.

"Have you ever known me to worry?" she questioned, smiling smugly. "Even if we relocate from Washington, I still plan to be a presence people will feel-- but never place-- across the globe. You can count on that..."

You decided to move on to what was really on your mind: her condition following Operation Full House. {if Vaarvel Held the Adjutant Hostage = 1}She'd taken a lot of big risks during that operation, but none more so than attempting to hold the Adjutant hostage in a room full of his armed guards. How had she known she'd get away with that? Especially considering that there ought to have been some top-class marksmen assembled there...

"Did you doubt me?" she asked, the white of her grin again flashing as a crescent from inside the darkness of her mask. "The trick to a successful gamble is to have the proper knowledge of psychology and human responses. What man in the room was going to risk shooting their leader? Similarly, I knew that the Adjutant would not order one of them to shoot and risk her own life, at least not while the situation was still possible to recover. It was no gamble at all."

Even now, you doubted her words. What she'd just described... was still a gamble. What made her so certain? You wanted to ask, but her reasoning felt impenetrable.{endif}

{if CEDIT Agents Killed Adder Adjutant = 1}You had to address the elephant in the room: what of the beating she'd taken at the hands of the Adjutant following that brief interrogation? It was unlike her to fall in a physical confrontation like that.

"Hm hm... What can I say? The Adjutant got the better of me on that occasion, even if it turned out to be a recklessly foolish decision on her part in the end. When a human is so motivated by a grudge... to the point that they'd risk their own life to injure another... you'd be surprised at the feats of force, reflexes, and ferocity they're capable of. I've seen it all and you will too, the more time you spend with us..."

She seemed to sense that your worries had not been significantly lessened and smiled sympathetically to calm you. "My head is fine, Nathaniel. Thank you for your concern."{endif}{if Au Revoir Killed Adder Adjutant = 1}You asked her for an update on Au Revoir. The woman had been in a bad state when she left the interrogation room with Adder Adjutant. You constantly worried over her mental health now, wondering if she'd relapse and become Python again.

"That's sweet of you to ask after her. I assure you, she's fine. Chipper. Sunny. Murderous. Same old Au Revoir. Your mistake might be treating her differently now that you've seen this, Nathaniel, because that side of her is the same you've always seen from the beginning. An order telling Au Revoir to murder is like an order telling a dog to eat. It's what they do. If they aren't responding to that order, they must be dead."

You thought that perspective was a bit cold of her, but you left it at that. She did know Au Revoir better than you did, seemingly.{endif}

{if Intercepted Vaarvel > 999}Sensing your continued distress, Vaarvel blinked her eyes shut for a moment, then reopened them in smiling crescents. "You know, if you're feeling tense... I can always recommend something to take the edge off. Pamela is asleep, isn't she?" You nodded along. "Good. Grab one of the disposable air bags that they keep over the seats. Once you have it, pull yourself free from those trousers and nestle it nice and easy over that cute cock of yours. Hm hm hm... Are you doing it? Turn your camera so I can see~"

You turned your camera to show your lap. You weren't doing it.

Vaarvel laughed in response. "Ha! It's no good any more just using my voice any more, is it? You won't be satisfied unless it's the real thing... Should I strip? Stick my pussy into the camera for you? Would that get you hot?" she questioned, her grin widening. You looked at Goodbye for a moment, then gulped... It was a pretty enticing offer, but you declined regardless. "Ah... All business. The ideal agent. Come and see me when you get back on base, though... I suspect you'll find my instructions harder to resist if we meet in person!"{endif}

The agent had tried to push your worries from your mind, so you allowed them to fall to the wayside. The two of you chatted in high spirits for the rest of the trip back. If there was one thing Vaarvel loved, it was hearing herself talk.
