Carry on home

Jessica left the man slumped on the wall. On a night of hunt, they'd assume a beast got the better of him. Adrenaline coursing through her, she carried on up the stairs.

She reached the final alley, but she heard a rustle and a clink of a bottle rolling. Someone or something was there. Jessica slowed down. Listening. She could hear heavy breathing, and the strange tang of blood. Jessica risked a peek around the corner. And the sight horrified her. A beast crawled on all fours on the ground ahead of her, its proportions were strangely more humanoid. Dark fur covered its naked body, matted in many places with blood. It was walking down the ally away from her.
From her hiding place Jessica watched, heart pounding as it came upon her home. It paused as if to tease her.
Move you stupid beast.

Instead, her blood turned to ice as it seemed to stop at the door. She could hear her aunt dimly swear in the distance.
The beast began to growl, standing up and leaning against the door frame, sniffing loudly. In an all too-human motion, it brought a clawed hand to the door handle.
