Chapter 266

Where do they go next?
Brunch.
"Brunch!" the girls replied back in unison gleefully.
I have no idea what is it with women and brunch -- it isn't a big hearty meal like breakfast or lunch but rather it seems like more of an excuse to gossip over fancy teacups, finger sandwiches, mimosas, and sundresses.
"Sure," I shrugged not wanting to argue after the amazing show they gave me. I carried their lingerie purchases back to the SUV.
"I know a cute little place I occasionally go with my coworkers," Elizabeth chimed in when she got into the front passenger seat. "La Petite Porte Cafe."
I punched in the name of the restaurant in my TomTom GPS navigation device and chauffeured the girls while they chit chatted.
The French restaurant wasn't too far away -- it almost took me more time finding a place to park than to drive there. It was a quaint family-owned restaurant where one of the owners recognized my wife at the door.
"Bonjour, Elizabeth!" the middle-aged hostess greeted my wife with light kisses on the cheeks.
"Hi Marie, this is my husband, Ian."
I begun to extend my hand out but the hostess leaned in to give me pecks on the cheeks so I returned the gesture.
Elizabeth introduced the other girls, who didn't feel awkward with the European style of greeting with cheek kisses.
Marie waved at a waiter to push two tables together before motioning us to sit. She gracefully handed us the menus and suggested a couple of delicacies her husband the chef specialized in. I let the girls order for us various dishes -- that I would not try to pronounce without destroying the French language -- and balanced with tea and mimosas.
"So, honey, how come you have never taken me here before?" I asked Elizabeth
"You seemed more interested in sleeping in on Sundays than having brunch with me."
Yeah, I shouldn't have brought that up. Luckily I was saved by the waiter bringing us our drinks.
"You are so lucky to have the company of five beautiful women, monsieur," Marie chuckled after supervising the waiter delivering our meal.
"Yes, I am," I replied, smiling at my best friends.
"Formidable," she smiled. "Bon appétit!"
"I like to make a toast to my wonderful husband," Elizabeth suggested, raising her mimosa. "Thank you for the gifts for the girls."
"Thank you, Ian!" the girls cheered, raising their glasses. "Cheers!"
We clinked the glasses and drank. The girls ordered more mimosas while I stuck to tea since I was driving.
