Chapter 21

What kind of greeting is waiting for Break Girl?
Break Girl meets Magnet Girl, and she'd better be ready to fight!
{if@ Break Girl HP = 1000}Finally, Break Girl meets the master of this laboratory. For more, view in game mode!{endif}{if Arrived by Trap = true}As soon as Break Girl turned the corner of the darkened doorway and opened one more office door, she was greeted by an almost blindingly well-lit hallway lined by glass-paneled test chambers on either side. Each was currently unoccupied, as she'd expected. At any other time of the day, this part of the tower was probably full of the noise of busy fingers clacking away at keyboards... Now, there was only one.
Break Girl finally noticed the most bizarre feature of this hallway: the high ceiling above was entirely metal, a surface broken only by the occasional vent or light fixture and... a desk?! Yes, there was a computer terminal fastened to one portion of the ceiling, complete with a series of wires linked into ceiling-mounted outlets. It had what looked like an office chair built into it the front of it, making it look almost like an arcade racing game. The room's sole other occupant sat there, busily clacking away at keys with her back to Break Girl.
Finally, Magnet Girl seemed to notice the new entrant, acknowledging her by peering one of her sharp eyes over a shoulder and then dismounting from her chair. It seemed like she would be plummeting a number of feet to a hard landing on the ground...
Instead, as she stood, the magnet on the forehead of her helmet linked to the metal ceiling with a reverberating clang; then, a **** began to push her easily to the floor below, as though she were repelled. She gracefully turned in midair as she did so, as though floating by her own power. It'd be a lot more intimidating if she wasn't still wearing a bathrobe... "Break Girl. You managed to escape that trap after all, hm?"
"It'll take a lot more than four magnets to stop me!" Taking aim with her Break Girl Buster, the intruder did her best to show that she was ready for a fight. "Enough with the pretense. You're going down! And, uh, not just down from the ceiling! Actually, what were you doing up there, anyway?"
"Work," Magnet Girl replied curtly. "There's always work to do. I'm not very well going to waste time waiting for you to make your way here, am I? Those were a productive ten minutes. Now, as for you... Luckily, I brought far more than four magnets. I'm looking forward to seeing the stupefied look on your face once I reformat your hard drive for good. When our good Doctor reprograms you as my personal office assistant, the first thing I'm going to have you do is repair those magnets I'm sure you damaged. At minimum wage, of course."
"You know, now that I think of it... It's kind of weird that you just turned the magnets on and left me to it, isn't it? Kinda like the evil villain in a movie." Break Girl tried on a smirk. "If I didn't know any better, I'd guess you were looking forward to our tussle."
Magnet Girl paused, then shook her head and sighed through her mask. "No, this is simply another kind of work, a task to be finished as quickly and efficiently as possible. To maximize the efficiency, please stand still. It'll be less painful if you don't struggle, too."
Break Girl pouted a bit as she continued to hold her Break Girl Buster in one hand. "Hey, can't you take your mind off work for one second? This is my Break Girl Buster, you know? There's only one like it in the world, and I think you know what it's made for! Surely you've got some kind of feeling about it? Revulsion? Apprehension? Maybe a little excitement?"
"It's cute," Magnet Girl scoffed, holding the back of one hand to her chin. "Did you see the exhibits on the ground floor? That might be a fun place to display it... A footnote to Dolly's glorious history of robotics. Now... I'm going to show you a real weapon."
Gulping, Break Girl pressed her fingers together. "Y-you mean that one? Your signature weapon? I'm not sure I'm ready!"
"... No, I don't believe there's any need for that." Magnet Girl sounded a little testy as she waved it off. "It would be a waste of time and energy. The low-tech weaponry ought to do just fine." It seemed the diabolical science-bot was going to take the initiative to attack. As she aimed one of her over-sized gauntlets at Break Girl, she revealed a wide slot just over one hand. Instead of attacking, she leapt forward. Aided by her helmet's power, she began to float towards the ceiling at an unpredictable angle while firing her signature Magnet Missiles, a weapon used by her Robot Master predecessor that was, quite literally, a U-shaped magnet fired like a missile.
That movement pattern would make her tough to hit, but were the missiles dangerous? She was firing them at different elevations straight horizontally as she moved towards the ceiling over Break Girl... It wasn't hard to figure out there was some trick to it.{endif}{if Arrived by Elevator = true}As soon as Break Girl exited the elevator, she was greeted by an almost blindingly well-lit hallway lined by glass-paneled test chambers on either side. Each was currently unoccupied, as she'd expected. At any other time of the day, this part of the tower was probably full of the noise of busy fingers clacking away at keyboards... For a moment, Break Girl thought she looked exactly like she'd expected: tall, slender, and pale, with brown hair, a red half-mask on her face that wrapped around her ears and included a headband with a tall, thin magnet built into it, a white lab-coat, and over-sized red gauntlets and boots. As the other woman drew closer, however, Break Girl became aware of some additional details that definitely weren't expected: first, instead of a glamorous perm, her hair was in a state of disarray, wet and disheveled almost like she'd gotten out of a shower without drying it; second, instead of a lab-coat, she was actually wearing a fluffy white bathrobe, probably inappropriate for meeting a guest, but still quite conservative in coverage; third, just a detail Break Girl was only noticing for the first time, Magnet Girl's boots were shaped into stiletto high heels at the base. Those heels clacked as she touched down on the metal floor with her arms behind her back. "Break Girl."
"Heeey, Magnet Girl..." Break Girl gave her an awkward wave. "You're 'up' late, hahaha..."
If the more serious woman caught her guest's joke, she didn't show it. Instead, she simply sighed and shifted her arms to her front, crossed below her bust. "You're the one visiting me, remember? Anyway, would you like to talk, or simply get straight to it? I don't have time to waste. Especially not this late, when I ought to be recharging."
"Uh... Get to what? Weren't we going to talk?" Break Girl gulped. It looked like the jig was already up...
"Oh, let's move on past that, dear." Magnet Girl rolled her eyes to express her impatience. "The others might be fooled, but I'm Dolly's right hand, remember? I'm well aware that you're here to defeat me. I don't know what got crossed in your circuits to make that happen, but I'll uncross it, don't you worry. I'll treat you to a hard reformatting. When I'm done with you, you'll be my sweet, obedient intern. My coffee runs are an important task, so I'll be counting on you."
"So that's why you invited me up here, huh? Sorry, I'm not applying, and I'm not interested in an office tour! You know, though, why did you let me up here, anyway?" Break Girl tried on a smirk.

That movement pattern would make her tough to hit, but were the missiles dangerous? She was firing them at different elevations straight horizontally as she moved towards the ceiling over Break Girl... It wasn't hard to figure out there was some trick to it.{endif}{if Server Room = true}After fumbling through the dark as quickly as she could, Break Girl found what ought to be a server room, ducked inside, and groped along the wall until she found what she was looking for. She threw a light switch...
This room was wide and had a tall ceiling. It was surrounded in dark metal on every ceiling, wall, and floor, and lined with tall computer towers along each wall. It seemed like a fitting enough place to have a showdown with Magnet Girl... Break Girl would give her five minutes, then start testing her Break Girl out on the servers. If she was telling the truth, she wasn't optimistic about that: the servers in here looked built to withstand earthquakes, explosions, and anything else.
It didn't seem she'd have to worry about it: in less than two minutes, the door had been thrown open, and Break Girl found herself facing a furious Magnet Girl. Her shoulders rose and fell with heavy breathing as she trained her sharp, furious eyes on her guest. "Break Girl!"
"Well, hey to you too!" Break Girl couldn't help but feel a bit of satisfaction about having an upper hand on an opponent that was supposed to be a great strategist, and gave a confident smile. "Did I interrupt your shower?"
Magnet Girl ignored the question and stormed forward with reverberating clacks. "The equipment! You haven't touched anything, have you? Blast you, if you want to fight me, do it fair and square! Don't think I don't know what you're up to, dragging our fight in here!"
"Ahaha, so we're not even pretending we're allies anymore, huh?" Break Girl gave her flustered opponent a pitying smile. "It could have been fun to pretend."
"In the interest of time, we're moving past that..." Magnet Girl paused, then sighed through her mask. "No, this is simply another kind of work, a task to be finished as quickly and efficiently as possible. To maximize the efficiency, please stand still. It'll be less painful if you don't struggle, too... and less expensive."

"... No, I don't believe there's any need for that." Magnet Girl sounded a little testy as she waved it off. "It would be a waste of time and energy. The low-tech weaponry ought to do just fine. Just... stand right there, please." It seemed the diabolical science-bot was going to take the initiative to attack.
