Chapter 8 by Rowenar Rowenar

What's the mission for day two?

Boss Fight!

'Defeat the cat haunting the cat. You have 360 minutes. Fail and face erasure. -The Reapers'

Larxene read the message aloud, squirming a little. When she was done she adjusted her arms, pressing the flat of the phone screen against her skin now she no longer had to look at it.

She still fidgeted. She'd have thought she'd be getting used to her situation by now, but instead each new person that walked past her, regardless of whether or not they could see her, was just getting her more and more flustered. A squeak escaped her lips as someone else walked out of the alley near her, living people apparently unaffected by the barriers.

"Well what's that meant to mean?!" Larxene snapped.

"We've got to fight something," Namine said. "There were those... things yesterday you got past. Maybe it's something like those."

"Killing everything in sight I can work with," Larxene said. "But I'm not walking through the whole city!"

Her cheeks warmed even further. The prospect of needing to get into combat in her current... situation was one that made her squirm. Even with her lightning magic, she needed gestures to direct the spells, and gestures meant not even her current shallow modesty.

This Namine would love that, she could tell. Larxene bit her lip.

It was hard to focus on much, as exposed as she was to the bustling crossing, but desperation had to count for something. She glanced around, cheeks blazing, hands clutching desperately at herself so that nothing slipped into view.

"It has to be possible, right?" Larxene said. "If there are barriers like this... maybe it means we don't go that way?"

"I suppose," Namine said. "I heard a couple of people mention a Cat Street as well; that might be part of what the message meant. An enemy on that street."

"Could've mentioned that sooner," Larxene said. She shifted. "So where is it?"

"No idea," Namine said,

"You're a lot of help," Larxene said. She exhaled. "You go into a shop, ask around."

"You're not coming with me?" Namine said innocently.

Larxene glowered, the brief reminder of her exposure in a shop yesterday making her cheeks heat up all the more. Blushing didn't particularly help her glare.

She was not going anywhere she could be seen by the living, nowhere with that sigil, she promised herself. A whimper escaped her lips at the memory.

"I don't know if we can even get to one," Namine said.

"Then how are we meant to find it?!"

"Could always try reading minds," Namine said.

"What?!" Larxene said.

"This is why you should've stayed outside with the Players," Namine said. She tapped the silver pin on her dress. "Apparently these give the Players new abilities, like seeing into the heads of the living."

Larxene hesitated. It probably did make sense for Players to be given a few tricks, but that still didn't make it worth waiting around with people that could see her. She squirmed, adjusting her arms again.

"Go look then," Larxene said. She hated how high her voice came out. "Who's thinking about Cat Street?"

"Oh, it doesn't work for me," Namine said. "Maybe because they took my heart. You can do it though, right? They must have given you a pin."

They had. In the pouch that she couldn't reach into without flashing the brat; she flushed.

"Are you lying?" Larxene said.

"Why would I do a thing like that?" Namine said sweetly.

Because she was enjoying this far too much. Larxene squirmed again, flushing; then hastily dropped her arm down, dropping her phone back into the pouch and pulling out a small handful of pins, not wanting to take long enough to sort through them.

The instant she was done, she crossed her slender arm back over her tits, bright red.

"Happy?!" Larxene said.

Namine didn't answer. Larxene took a moment to catch her breath, before clutching the pin tighter. How did this- ah!

If she concentrated, the world shifted slightly. People faded from view, glimmers of light came into focus. Namine was unreadable, but others were like a cacophony of voices.

Ok, maybe she could get used to this. At least she didn't have to actually look at the people around her, she could pretend this was some kind of weird dreamspace, and-

_God, I hope I see that blonde again. That ass, never thought stuff like that really happened. _

Larxene yelped, cheeks burning all the more. Apparently there were people still thinking about her exposure in the shop the other day; she swallowed, doing her utmost to ignore those thoughts.

That security footage sucked, wish it had gotten a better view. Still fun to look at.

Wonder if she's one of those girls that enjoys the attention? So long as I keep an eye out, she'll probably pop up again.

Huh. Guess I like girls now.

How did she get out from behind the counter? So close to getting a better photo... Not that I need it, never going to forget that body.

Fuck, how many people had been in that damn store?! The crossing around them was packed, it might only have been a handful of them, but their thoughts kept jumping out to her.

Focus, look for the cat, try not to think about them thinking about security footage, or imagining her, or imagining-

Wonder if her pussy's that blonde?

Not that kind of cat! Larxene whimpered. Her lower hand twitched, making sure she was as covered as she could be down there.

It felt like far too long before she heard a mention of Cat Street. Hastily she stopped focusing, flushed beet-red, opening her eyes to see Namine still smirking at her.

Damn it, that brat must have been able to use her pin, she knew what Larxene was going to red. Larxene shifted her arms slightly, suddenly feeling all the more exposed now that she knew people were still remembering her.

"Over there," Larxene said, jerking her head and vainly trying to keep her voice steady. Don't show Namine it had gotten to her. "Someone's heading to it, that way."

"Lead the way," Namine said.

"Just because I can't kill you doesn't mean I won't zap you," Larxene said.

There was a brief moment of quiet, before Namine headed down a wider street not too far from them. She only made it a couple of steps, Larxene turning away from the wall and stumbling behind her, before she bumped into another invisible wall.

"Oh come on!" Larxene yelped.

She hunched forwards slightly, aware that her ass was no longer pressed against a building. A whimper escaped her lips, once more out in the open in the middle of the crossing.

Before she could dart anywhere else another figure approached them. They wore a red hoodie; it was hard to tell if he was the same person that had greeted Larxene or if it was just some kind of uniform, but either way it was obvious he was a Reaper, and as such coudl eaisly see them. Larxene squeaked.

She sidestepped, really not wanting to just cower behind Namine, but wanting to be ogled even less. His gaze did linger on her.

"Do you want through?" he said.

"You can open the barrier?" Namine said.

"If you can do a task for me," he said. "Take out-"

"Just get it open!" Larxene said, half-snapping and half yelping. She didn't want to be in this crowded crossing a second more than she had to!

He turned his gaze to her. For a moment his eyes flicked down; Namine took a quick step to the side, giving him a clearer view of Larxene's barely-covered from before she could squeak and move back behind her shorter companion, hunching forwards.

"I suppose," he said slowly. "No task, if you do someth-"

Recognising that lecherous edge to his voice for what it was, Larxene yelped, blushed deeper, and gestured with one hand to send a thunder spell towards the Reaper, interrupting him.

He stumbled back. For a moment he seemed tense, more worried than angry; he quickly straightened.

Larxene stared at him, breathless, adjusting her hand so that it covered her tits again. Fuck, she hadn't wanted him to see that much, but there was no way she was just going to be perved over!

"What was- that wasn't-" it was slightly satisfying to see the Reaper caught off-guard.

"Open the barrier and let us through, or you'll see what else I can do," Larxene said.

A little satisfaction crept into her tone. Ok, this whole situation was still mortifying, but the fact the locals of this world apparently didn't know about magic did make her tricks awfully satisfying. The other Players must be pretty pathetic if they were doing without that.

Even if Namine looked disappointed. Of _course _she did. So long as she avoided anyone else seeing her, though...

The Reaper opened the barrier, fumbling with something. Moments later and Larxene gratefully sprinted away from the crossing, more concerned with finding somewhere quieter than with getting to Cat Street.

Though getting the mission over with was definitely a good goal. The faster she got past this Game, the better.

What waits for them there?
