Novaxans have areas all over their body, their head, backs, chests, out and inside of their arms and legs, and the mound above their genitals. These areas change patterns, color, and brightness intensity to convey emotions, and intentions.

Colors:

True blue: calm and peace.

Desaturated blue: sadness, melancholy

Glowing blue: Serene, free of worries

True green: happiness

Desaturated/pale green: sickness, disgust

Glowing green: excited, ecstatic

Aqua: content

Desaturated aqua: resigned sadness

Glowing aqua: anticipation

White: neutral (usually used for pure intent or context such as questions)

Grey: feeling of impending doom

Dark grey: (no not black they can't do that) hopelessness

Yellow: caution, hesitant

Desaturated yellow: resigned fear

Glowing yellow: intense fear, ready to run

Orange: fight or flight response active

Desaturated orange (Brown): platonic affection

Bright orange: panic stricken/paralyzed in fear

Red: ready to fight, threatening

Desaturated red: resigned to death

Glowing red: intense rage

Purple: lust

Desaturated purple/lavender: budding arousal

Glowing purple: overcome with lust

Pink: orgasming

Glowing pink: peak orgasm

Gold (only ever glows intensely): love, devotion (only shown when they have imprinted on a mate)

Patterns:

Fading: affirmation

Flickering: question

Wave across an area: statement

Blinking one at a time (spine to head only): correcting a statement

Circling head: processing information for a length of time

Intense glow in a sudden amount (like a light turning on): not translatable, emotional equivalent of screaming with such passion that your heart may stop beating.
