“Dr. Rorbeck, my boss and our mutual friend who set up this date, told me your name is Mary Novak.” You double down hoping your memory is right, less you have now blown a most epic blind date. “You know Dr. Rorbeck, right?”

“Okay, you got me.” She relents, “I have never met Dr. Rorbeck, I know nothing about this Novak woman, and I'm not your real date.”

“What?” You stammer quite confused never having heard of such a thing, “Why? How?”

“It's a long story.” Your pretend date grumbles in an apologetic tone and begins to ramble on as only a woman can. “I heard about Rorbeck's attempt to set you up through a mutual friend, Dr. Thompkins, who always speaks so highly of you then I was in Metropolis for business and heard the date was on and then I found out you were a Trustee for the Athenaeum and I really want to see the new jewelry collection but it isn't open yet and I have to head back to Gotham soon and I had a really terrible day and after a drink I got this crazy idea it would be fun to steal a date then . . .”

The raven haired beauty stops in mid sentence, realizing she was going on.
