Chapter 4 by findingthesexy

How does her first day go?

As expected

For the rest of the day, Gabrielle leads Molly around the office. She walks her through her standard duties like making copies and sending faxes, shows her where the supplies can be found, and introduces her to a few of her coworkers. Molly is surprised at how long it takes to run through the list, as it seems like a regular office job, but almost every task takes twice as long due to security protocols and processes. Despite the mundane nature of her role, Molly's excitement is not stifled at the end of the day. She is sitting around a table with Gabrielle and two of her new coworkers, Lucas and Emma.

"...and that covers your basic duties. Any questions?" Molly shakes her head. "Nope, it all seems pretty straightforward." Gabrielle gets that small smile again while Lucas and Emma share a look. "Well that's just half of it," the manager says. "Probably the most important duty of our interns is improving the lives of our heroes." Molly's eyes sparkle and she listens intently. "The heroes who work at Hero HQ need to be able to drop everything and run out at a moment's notice; often lives are at stake." Gabrielle's eyes grow serious and she continues, "which means that anything we can do to make their lives easier should be done. If they need something fetched from another room, if they need a message delivered, if they even need someone to hold a door open, you should rush to do so. For our department, a hero's orders trumps your regular duties and anything else. You report to me, but even then you should drop everything to help out a hero if they ask. Understood?"

Molly nods solemnly, managing to contain her excitement. This is what she wants. She loves heroes. So much so that she'd happily hold doors open for them. All day if that's what they asked. It's a good thing Gabrielle outlined the rules, because Molly doubted that she could refuse a hero's orders even if she was supposed to. They were her idols and she was so excited to be working so closely to them.

Gabrielle wrapped up the first day explanation and let Molly know that she was expected to be at her desk at 9am sharp. She then headed back to her office to catch up on some emails. The three interns at the table munched on vending machine snacks and shared small talk. Molly kept pressing for details about working with heroes, but Lucas and Emma both steered away from that topic. "You'll find out soon enough, then you'll have your own stories," Lucas deflected. "Just make sure you take what Gabby said seriously. You have to do anything a hero asks." Molly nods excitedly. "I know! I can't wait." Lucas shrugs at Emma, who chuckles. "We'll see about that," Emma laughs.
