Chapter 3 by zaick zaick

What does Arianna decide?

Arianna heads directly to where the monarch was

Arianna figured she could do with a little cooling off, and cares little about the water. In this heat, she would dry fast. She moved down the rows of plants, looking underneath the flowering bushes as she went. She occasionally saw a flutter, but wondered if it was just water playing tricks with the light.

Underneath a gateway of roses, she saw a monarch. She moved toward it, though it rounded the corner and went over a small fence outside the garden. With a deft leap, Arianna made it over the fence... But the back of her sundress did not. The end of a wooden stick caught the hem, and as she made it to the other side, it pulled up, showing the back of her slip. Arianna looked behind herself to see if anyone was looking, a little flushed, but saw no one and just pulled.

It was a bad idea. She heard a rip. Of course - the dress was wet. It was heavy and would not get away from the fence. Arianna cursed the decision.

Both the slip and dress were incredibly wet, clinging to her. Half the width of the back half of the sundress was on the fence behind her in a long scrap, showing the bottom inch of her slip around her knee. She put it away, a little embarrassed, and smoothed down the back of the dress. She could deal with symmetry later.

She was now in a grassy area. The butterfly would not stay here long unless there were flowers. Arianna heard a stream at the edge of the forest - likely that would be a good place to start, though the garden already had flowers - it could have circled back around.

Where does Arianna go?
