Chapter 4 by Frank89
Who's the target?
Arden Riggs (man)
With this assignment the agency had offered Shannon an incredible opportunity to be the key figure in taking down the infamous Arden Riggs. Unknown birthplanet, unknown family, unknown education. The man practically didn't exist, yet a police asked on any planet would recognise the name. Riggs was no crime lord, but throughout his years in 'business' he'd managed to become a jack of all trades, having his hands in every cookie jar the outlaws of the galaxy ever dreamed up. That made him a valuable target. Nabbing him could untangle the weave of organized crime and lead to many critical arrests. All that due to her invaluable contribution to the cause. If she succeeded.
The cocky son of a bitch had managed to outsmart authorities, bounty hunters and some criminal organizations throughout the Federation, which raised the ire of important and wealthy people. This elicited a high bounty on his head. Of course, this meant Shannon would likely have competitors. Not only her agency, but countless independant bounty hunters had been gunning for Riggs for years. He was not the biggest of the fishes -- not by a long shot -- but the most influential and probably the hardest to catch. The man was a genious when it came to covering his tracks or framing others. Many an arrest attempts found only hobos paid to relay the message "Almost.". Not to mention all the several assassination attempts on politicians who were "thought to be Riggs" by hitmen.
So thus it came to be that every time a rumour about Riggs arose in some backalley shithole, countless people interested in him were eagerly rushing to the source. And these were not mere rumours. He was always there, just disappeared before anyone else arrived. Most recently, this rumour was that he became involved in the slave business. Though some parties highly opposed this, slavery was made illegal within the bounderies of the Galactic Federation. Although, laws had never stood in the ways of criminals before. And wherever money changed hands in great quantities, weasels like Riggs were expected to show their faces. But this time, it could very easily mean the downfall of this specific weasel. An agent provided inside information about an opportunity to catch the target red handed. And the meeting place only employed women, thus they needed one to get inside. Shannon. She wasn't even surprised that the meeting place was on Deng. Where else could a slaver feel safe? Well, as safe as anyone on Deng could feel themselves.
Shannon had been thoroughly prepared for the operation. She was fitted with the latest listening devices and microcameras. All cutting-edge technology. All placed in her underwear by her eager colleagues. Her cover identity was Luna, a silly little runaway trying to escape her influential parents. Perfect for a job at a shithole. The calls to the "restaurant" had been made. She was expected for an interview -- which was just for paperwork as they said -- and would be able to start working that same night. The night of the transaction. Shannon reached to her hip where her blaster used to be. With a heavy sigh she returned her hand to her knee. She knew her colleagues were following her every move and listening to every sound she made. Not that it would make her invulnerable. In fact, she had never felt more vulnerable in her entire life.
She could hear the magnet locks latch onto the side of the ship. The flight had arrived.
