Chapter 14 by Gatsha Gatsha

What's next?

Approach Magnet Girl's lab by cover of night.

Thanks to Wily's efforts, Break Girl had reason to believe Dolly's Robot Mistresses were still unaware of her double turn his behalf. As such, she should be able to approach them with deception in many cases, putting herself in a perfect position for a preemptive strike against opponents who didn't know she was an enemy. All she'd have to do was get close to them...

There was one target, however, this didn't apply to. Magnet Girl seemed to act as Dolly's number two, handling all of the business she couldn't fit into her own schedule, including additional research. Break Girl would never know how difficult it was to deceive her: just getting on her calendar and getting into the high-security laboratory seemed like it was going to take clearance or smooth-talking skills Wily's robot just didn't have. Even if she could, the laboratory could be staffed with civilians during regular hours... {if Heroic = true}As a fledgling heroine, Break Girl would rather keep collateral damage to a minimum.{endif}{if Anti-Heroic = true}More civilians meant more people getting in her way.{endif} Break Girl was going to have to look for an easier way to meet her...

"I can't believe this is the easy way," Break Girl commented to herself, hiding in the hedges around Magnet Girl's facility.

The robot had chosen to perform a smash-and-grab operation at night. Hopefully, she'd catch Magnet Girl powered down and be able to disable her, or she'd be able to find the Energy Element without even bumping into the Robot Mistress... as her right-hand bot, Magnet Girl might be one of Dolly's most dangerous. Besides that...

"She can control metal, right? I'm made of metal! How am I even gonna fight her in the first place, huh? Couldn't Wily have invented some kinda plastic armor for me? Nah... Using plastic armor because your opponent controls magnetism? That's like something out of a comic book."

Still, it looked like this had become a pressing concern even before running into the woman herself. The laboratory was a four story building: at the heights of the second and fourth stories, perimeters of flying robotic defenses were stationed around. "Those are Mag-Flies... They're basically just flying magnets with googly eyes and beanie propellers that follow Magnet Girl's orders. But they're apparently really powerful magnets, and there's so many of them! These are definitely defenses set up to catch a robotic meddler like Buster Girl. Sheesh... Nope, I can't chicken out now. The whole building's dark except for that room on the fourth floor. That's got to be where Magnet Girl is. I'll do what it takes. Plus, if I can infiltrate the building without getting caught... How cool would that be?{if Heroic = true} Buster Girl would be like 'Ooh, Break Girl, you're just like a secret agent!' Hee hee hee...{endif}{if Anti-Heroic = true} I bet Buster Girl never even managed to do that! She doesn't seem like the quiet type.{endif}"

Although she was fancying herself a stealthy infiltrator here, and she'd taken off her shades by necessity, she was still dressed in her eye-catching yellow scarf and red leotard. There were cameras all around, but she could see a path through if she was careful. Unfortunately, that path took her straight through a path underneath two of those magnets. It would be so easy if she could just take out the security cameras, but she thought it was likely they were tied to the main security system of the building... The Mag-Flies, on the other hand, probably wouldn't be missed, and they were so high up a camera probably wouldn't even catch their explosion.

The tricky part was how to disable those Mag-Flies. Between Break Girl and the building, the fourth floor Mag-Fly was closer to Break Girl, and the second floor Mag-Fly was closer to the building. They were so high up that shooting at them with her buster would almost certainly miss, and probably only draw attention to herself. Maybe she had a weapon that could help? Or maybe it was smarter just to try and **** her way through, after all...

What's the right tool for the job?
