An old man with a cane

At the same time the whole group turns around to see a small silhouette coming their way. The group wonders what could live in a place like this. At first, they were afraid of what might come to them and wanted to run. To run where that was the real question. They didn't know where they were. While pondering on their options they could see the silhouette clearer and it was an old man using a cane to walk. The man waves at them and made a sign for them to approach. The group panic subsided a bit when they realised the man was not a threat.

Then they proceed to walk toward the old who seems to have some difficulty walking. After what seems a few minutes the group and the old man finally meet.

“ Hello my friends. I know you have a lot of questions for me and I have some answers for you. Unfortunately, I cannot divulge all everything yet.” Said the old man to the five friends smiling to them.

For some reason Liam didn't trust that smile. He knew that smile too much. It was a kind of smile you do just before doing some mischief. Liam tried to warn his friends, but Robert took charge as always.
“So what can you tell me.” ask Robert with genuine interest. The old man made a small sign of approbation with his head.

We would act as observers and protector. Under our guidance humanity would flourish, but we were taken aback when we saw humanity's tendency towards destruction. Every century, we would take a small group of people and test them. For the first millennium after our conclusion humanity overcome our challenge et we protected them.
