"Great," Miss Beaumont says. "There is one thing, though. As you probably know, Rachel is the captain of the cheerleading team and, frankly, she rules it with an iron fist. I just want you to know that if you don't want to let her push you around, that I'll support you. I can't do too much. It's school policy to be fairly hands-off about such things, but I'll help any way I can. If you end up being as good as I think you will be, I'd love to make you captain so long as I'm sure it wouldn't cause a team revolt."

You're not sure about dealing with Rachel. Frankly, she rather frightens you, though you seem to be gaining some confidence lately. "I'll try my best, Miss Beaumont," you promise.

"I'm sure you will, Parker. Thanks a lot and see you tomorrow. Tomorrow's also the first day of practice," she says.
