Advanced Education

While Kate shifted in her seat, trying to get comfortable sitting at her desk, she heard the handle on the door turn. Bracing for a stampede of kids, Kate gripped the sides of her desk. When the door opened, however, it was not an unyielding barrage of children but instead, it was a woman.

She was older than Kate and twice as tall. Not surprising, due to Kates short stature. The woman simply smiled and walked in carrying a rather full duffle bag.

"Hi, I'm Beth Walters, and I'm here to be your aide in this class."

As Beth extended her free hand kate got out of her seat, reached up and shook the woman's hand.

"If I may ask. Why do I need an aide in this class?" Asked Kate.

"Didn't you know? This is an Advanced education class." Answered Beth.

"You mean, I'm going to teach a special ed class?" Kate whined.

"I don't see what's special about children having learning disabilities." Beth shot back, scorning Kate's disrespectful comment.

"Consider me your other..half." Beth snorted as she studied Kates diminutive height.

It took a while but kate eventually got the joke, before she could say another word, the bell rang.
