What's next?
Meeting the students
As the classroom door swung open, in walked a girl, her face practically hidden under layers of makeup, which she is still applying. Following is a boy, flapping his hands, looking around and grinning wildly. Next person to come in was a woman. Kate was about to leave thinking that the Principal had second thoughts about her teaching But, upon further inspection, the woman was guiding a wheelchair bound girl through the door. The girl was sound asleep in the big seated wheelchair. The woman also carried with her a stuffed duffle bag. The last boy in wore a suit and tie. He carried a usual backpack along with a briefcase.
Kate stood up and walked to the center of the classroom to introduce herself. "Hello class, my name is Miss Ambers. I would like to know about you all. Starting with you." Kate walked over to the boy wearing a suit, ignoring the loud scoff from the girl applying makeup."What's your name?" The boy gave her a card. "James Tillerson. Y'know, next time just say your name, ok? Now you." Kate adressed the girl. "My name is Ashley Baker, future actress, model, and Queen of the world." It was hard to take Ashley seriously on account of the fact that she looked like a clown with all the makeup on her face. "Well, Ashley. There's a word for your behavior and that is.." Beth raised her voice to interrupt Kate. "Indulgence. I'm sorry Miss Ambers, but the Principal told me to tell you to indulge in the fantasies and behaviors of your students." Kate nervously smiled at Beth, fearing of what Beth was up to.
"You look very pretty, Miss Baker." Kate Acknowledged. "Thank you." Ashley grinned. Kate walked over to the wheelchair bound girl, then looked up at the woman. "Hi, what's her name?" "I'm Christie." The woman said, giddily. Kate didn't understand. "No, her name." "I'm Christie." The woman said again, forcefully. Now, Kate understood. The woman was talking for the girl. But hopefully she won't act like a little girl. Having more than one adult in the room made Kate safe.
The sound of a chair scooting across the floor woke Kate from her thought of safety, looking, she saw that a burly boy was about to leave.
