A quick trip to the woods couldn’t hurt, right?

You admit that the woods have had a tempting hold on you since you were a kid. All the adults said it was dangerous to be out there on your own without a Pokemon. With Pallet Town being as small as it was, the woods were like a promise that the world was much larger and more exciting than your home could ever be. Not that there was anything wrong with Pallet Town, but it didn’t have anything new to offer you.

It might not have been the smartest idea you’ve had, but since you were getting your own Pokemon today you reasoned that it wouldn’t be so bad if you had a quick look in for woods. Just 5 minutes and you’d be back in Pallet Town heading to Oak’s lab with no one the wiser.

Contrary to what you’ve been told your entire life growing up, no wild Pokemon immediately jumped you after taking your first step on the grass. You were somewhat overcautious with your first step but after a dozen more with nothing jumping out to bite your face off, you became much more comfortable walking forward into the woods.

It was both more impressive and less so than you has previously made it out to be. On one hand, yes it was a significant change from the town. But you did expect something…more stunning to be lying beyond the grass. It looked more or less just like it did from town, just closer up, and you were surrounded by trees barring the path heading between towns.

You heard the sound of grass shifting and you froze solid. You couldn’t quite tell which direction the sound came from, but it sounded fairly close. You didn’t want to risk attracting the attention of a wild Pokemon, but you couldn’t just stand in place either. So you carefully checked the area in an effort to spot whatever made the noise. You might have just imagined it, but it was a better policy to assume something was there and be safe than ignoring it and possibly getting jumped.

You didn’t have to wait very long to hear the grass moving again, this time to your left. You kept most of your attention in that direction with the hope of tracking how close the noise was from you. Luckily, it seemed to be heading further away from you. Now would probably be a good time to backtrack out of the woods and head to the Lab. You admit that you are curious about what caused the noise. The grass was too tall to make out what Pokemon it was. You probably could catch up and get a better look if you were quick enough.
