Chapter 14 by Orlog4 Orlog4

Start the next day.

A lot of work awaits you, but you are not alone

The next morning starts very similar to the previous one. It still feels like a dream. You have your own doctor’s office now. a small one in a small town, but it is yours. And one of your old childhood friends is going to work for you. Since you have to be at the office at eight, you get up early and join your parents at breakfast.

As expected, your mother is less than happy that you are going to move out again. She understands that this is the best for your work and she says she respects your wish for freedom, but she can’t hide her disappointment either. At least you can calm her a little with the fact, that you literally live just a few streets away and she can visit both the office and your home whenever she wants. You even offer her to visit your old home much more often than when you studied.

Your father, on the other hand, immediately offers his help with moving your stuff and assembling your new furniture. You thank them for their support and leave after breakfast. Not too early as it seems, because when you and your parents arrive at the doctor’s office, five people already wait for you. Nadja, Eve and Claire stay by the door and everyone has a box in her arms. A Claire’s husband and your oldest male friend, Kyle, are currently chatting at a pickup truck, that is outstanding terribly parked. You have serious troubles entering your parking space. And since most of your study material is in your car, you can’t just look for another parking space.

“The office is closed,” you call to greet anyone, “please contact the doctor one village further. What are you doing here anyway? Nad, I said we meet at eight, this is in more than half an hour.”

“Don’t worry, we didn’t wait for more than … twenty minutes,” Nadja replies, “and by the way, the doctor in the next town has retired too. And the one in the next town after that too. You are the only doctor available for about 50 kilometers.”

“42,8 according to Google maps,” Eve corrects and looks up from her mobile phone which lays on top of her box, “but let’s see it positive. That’s good for business.”

Max, my brother,” Kyle interrupts Eve and holds his hand up for a high five, “you did it. You are a doctor now. Strike, you intelligence beast! Missed you.”

“I’m glad to see you too, Kyle,” you say and return the high five, “sorry, I had no chance talking to you yesterday. How has life been?”

“We can talk inside,” Claire says friendly but also a little strict, “everyone here decided to assist you in the beginning of your own doctor’s office. And these boxes are kind of heavy. Would you be so kind?”

You quickly unlock the box and offer to carry one of the boxes. Soon, all eight people standing in the entrance hall around the receptionist’s desk. It seems that Claire and Eve used the past day to look for unused furniture, that was no longer needed after the last renovation in the mayor’s hall. They found several pieces for furniture for offices and asked Kyle to help them with his truck. Claire’s husband also helped to move everything.

Your mother quickly disappears to inspect your new home and also quickly comes back to complain about how empty and dusty it is. Since this doesn’t change your opinion about moving in, she goes straight to the car where she has stored some cleaning equipment and you are sure you will not meet her until evening.

You begin by helping Kyle to move a whole desk from his truck to your office. Eve follows you with a chair. The desk is heavy and big, but with a lot of effort you manage to get in inside without damaging anything. Claires husband has already started to build a bookshelf in a corner of your office and Claire carries a box of empty folders she got for you.

Nadja and your dad are in the meanwhile despairing by getting a computer started, which Nadja brought from her home. It appears she got it almost for free during her studies from a friend who worked in an electric store. But due to her lack of knowledge about computers, she struggles with getting it to work again. Kyle takes her place and less than ten minutes later it is fully assembled and ready to work.

Next you and Claire take care of Nadja’s work contract and Eve checks your documents for the founding. Or rather she looks at it and annoys her mother with questions until she tells her that she will take care of it herself back in the mayor’s office. The others, with exception of your mother, carry some more chairs for the waiting room. And for some reason Kyle >donates< some old toys for small children. You can't get rid of the feeling that he just wanted to get rid of the stuff without having to drive to the local garbage dump.

It takes until lunch time, but when everyone is done, you have a doctor’s office you can actually just start to work at. Nadja even has started to create an own website for you. She knows little about computers, but seems to be a very skilled web designer. Of course, you still need medicine and medical equipment, but you could already start inspecting and consulting some people.

Since everyone is hungry, you offer to buy pizza for everyone. And you insist to pay, since they all did a lot of work for you. You totally forgot how helpful everyone in this town is over your studies. While you sit in the waitng room, chat and make your orders at the local pizzeria, you notice that your mother is still in your new apartment.

“Honey, we order some Pizza,” your father calls up, “by the way, the operation room is down here. What are you doing so long up there?”

“I’m not going to let our son sleep in such a wasteland,” you mother replies sharp, “I take one with mushrooms, please.”

“Hey, buddy, should we take my car to pick up the food?” Kyle asks after you ordered, “It has been a while since we had a real talk. And I would like to hear all of your stories about the wildest uni-parties and hottest chicks. Students and teachers.”

“Well, you could do this, Max,” Eve interrupts not very happy, “or you could stay with us and take some pictures for your new website. And I think Nad wanted to look around where to buy medical equipment for you. However, the choice is up to you. Go with the jerk or stay her with us and do something important.”

“Come on, Eve, you are not fair,” Kyle replies and tries to calm Eve “I wasn’t serious. This is just curiosity. Well, but as she said, the choice is up to you.”

Who do you want to go with?
