Chapter 22 by GenocideHeart
What happens next?
A darker turn of events
A thundering crash awakens you from your slumber. You think at first that the guards are coming again for another attempt at a gangbang, but when the door doesn't swing open you get curious. Rising from your position in the corner, atop a small pile of hay, you tiptoe to the door.
Taking a peek out of your cell, you watch the panicked movements of your jailers. They are dashing up and down the hallway, shouting in Elvish, and brandishing their weapons. Their footsteps are light on the stone floor, but their armor rattles with urgency and you can see the anxious looks on their faces.
Faintly, sounds begin to reverberate through the walls, sounds you hadn't heard before because of the commotion outside you cell. The heavy ring of metal on metal. A dull but immense thud, like a body being hurled against a wall. Elven voices roaring battlecries and commanding above the attack. Screams.
"Hey, you! You! What's going on out there?" You yell at the nearest guard.
The guard only gives you a cursory glance, brushing back his braided blond hair, and simply replies, "Just stay quiet in your cell."
The shouting in your hallway suddenly intensifies. The guards have all turned in the same direction and some of them are running towards something beyond your line-of-sight. Straining your head on the far side, you look for whatever is approaching.
A wounded Elf is approaching the crowd in front of your cell, supported by a fellow warden on each arm. When he reaches the rest, he starts speaking Elvish, his strength draining. They respond with a barrage of questions, some of them shouting, their faces clearly show that the fight upstairs is not going well. Again, he whispers something in Elvish and gives off one last shudder, slumping against one of the Elves supporting him. You don't need to hear their voices of concern, or see one of them trying to shake him awake, to know what happened. Even from where you're standing you can tell that the guard is dead.
The two Elves carrying the turnkey slowly ease him to the floor. Then one of them pulls out his weapon, an unadorned short sword, and barks out a command to the rest of the guards. The rest unsheath their weapons and follow the commander down the hallway, towards the battle, leaving you alone again in your cell.
The dead prison guard lies only a few feet from your door, his keys glinting off the torchlight, beckoning to you. If you stick your arm through the food tray slot you just might be able to reach the key ring on his belt.
But it sounds like an war is raging above ground. If you leave your cell you might get caught in the crossfire or you might get caught trying to escape. Maybe it would be safer to stay in your cell and wait for things to settle down?
