Who do you choose?
A chat with Peg
Some time later, Peg walked in and sat down.
"When I bring in PJ and Pistol, first thing is to find a world where counseling is a major thing. PJ's depressed and will be more so when we have to leave Max and Goofy behind. I don't know if Pistol will need therapy, but better to be on the safe side , especially after what Pete might've done," Peg said, looking like she was trying to calm down. When she noticed you still looking though the list of people with dimensional travel know-how. She asked, "Just how many people are there?"
"A lot, especially when you factor in the possibility of each person having multiple versions of themselves and working with and against each other. For instance," You said before bringing up someone.
"That guy kinda looks like Doc Brown from Back to the future, but drunk and depressed," Peg commented.
With a wry smile, you explained, "Almost on the nose with that description. His name is Rick Sanchez. He's such an expert at multidimensional travel, there's a citadel of Ricks, where one can buy anything... but he's as bad as Pete, just more charismatic, skilled, and depressed. I don't know the exact reason, but finding out he's not unique did a number on him, as well as finding out what else exists in existence. If you ever played Warhammer 40,000, it's the creatures that exist in the warp."
When Peg raised her eyebrow, as if asking for an explanation, You replied, "Let's just say this, if someone tells you that you're traveling through a warp like in Warhammer 40,000, follow four simple rules. Don't communicate, don't reply, don't look out the windows, and move back to real space as fast as you can. It's that bad. There's a movie called Event Horizon that could fit right into the past of Warhammer 4k."
"I'll trust you on that," Peg replied, not really concerned about what you said. She swiped the screen and saw a red-haired woman that had a crab motif. "Who is she?"
"Washu Hakubi. She's interested in science... a little too much. In some dimensions, she actually is a goddess of science who erased her memories, just to rediscover everything, as well as to see if gods can create something greater than themselves," you answered. "But consent is something she has to be reminded of in any version of her."
Peg grew silent before she asked in quiet anger, "Would she ever..."
"Your kids would be safe from any of her experiments. You and I? Not so much for most versions. She does have an age restriction and she does make sure that we'd be physically okay after her experiments. Mentally? Maybe we might be mind-wiped of the experiment. I think the forementioned goddess might spare you simply because you're a mother like herself. Long story short, that version of Washu was separated from her daughter by a clone of her colleague," You answered before she held up her hand.
"If... If you ever decide to bring in Washu, just put me back in with Pete. I'd feel safer leaving him while in my world than live with Washu," Peg said. After a moment, she said, "The one that was a mother.... Maybe, but I'd feel awful for sacrificing you for my children's safety."
"Right, So at least one of her is on the maybe pile," You said before swiping.
"And that cute little imp is?" Peg asked.
"Midna, Queen of the Twili. Her real form is more humanoid. This is just a sealed form that she got stuck in when she was overthrown," You answered. "She might not know exact how to help us, but she'd know enough to keep us safe. But she might also either play pranks or use us to free her people from a tyrant. But she is a good person deep down inside and never would betray us."
Peg reluctantly nodded. "So whose next?"
You swiped and swore under your breath when you saw who it was. When you tried to swipe, Peg grabbed your hand, asking, " What with her?"
"She's Beth Smith, daughter of Rick Sanchez. This version of Beth was given a chance to leave her family behind with a clone of herself, so she could explore and not feel held back by her family or worry about if they need her," You answered. "She's more held together than Rick, but she tends to be.... controlling and bitchy."
Peg's grip tightened, hurting you a little. She let you go, ordering, "Next one."
"Keep in mind that skill and good morals aren't always together with multiverse portal-making people," You said as Peg let you go, so you could swipe. "There's a lot of evil in the multiverse. For every good person and choice, there is an equally evil person or choice. I guess the multiverse likes balance or something."
"Yukari Yakumo? I like her style of dress and her hat does look cute. So what's her problem?" Peg asked.
"Her clothes do have a Chinese flair and the thing on her head is a mob cap. She's kinda lazy for the most part, letting her Shinigami do most of the work. Here's the thing though. Where she lives, it takes a lot of power to have Shinigami. She has enough to let her Shinigami have Shinigami. Yukari also is well-connected and knowledgeable. She only looks human, though she may have been one at one point in her life. She's a Youkai, a youkai whose power is..." You said, letting the suspense build. "to manipulate boundaries, to the point where's she called, 'the gap youkai'."
"Really? That doesn't sound threatening," Peg muttered with an annoyed look.
"It all depends on what she considers a boundary. She's gotten skilled enough with it to be able to create gaps at point A in the middle of the air that leads all the way to Point Q in another dimension. She can even turn night into day and the reverse, all as long as it involves boundaries somehow. As for her flaws for us, she's lazy and cares a lot for her home. I suspect she'd use the token system to help wean her fellow youkai off of eating humans," You answered.
After a few moments, Peg said, "Rejected. She's rejected."
"To be fair, I'd be eaten. you'd be seen as youkai that doesn't need to eat humans," You explained.
Ignoring your comment, Peg swiped the screen and said, "Well, she looks interesting... Do you know who Heckapoo is?"
"She's probably the most helpful and one of the lesser pranksters, but the relationship between her and morality is... iffy," you reluctantly said. "On one hand, she's committed many war crimes, but on the other hand, most of those were aimed at a race called Septarian ,who tend to be very evil and immortal, so quite a bit of it was kinda needed to stop them. It's still a black mark on her, but kind of an understandable one. If we do choose her, I doubt she'll ever do anything war crime-y."
Peg took the tablet and looked up info about Heckapoo. After a few minutes, she put the tablet down and rubbed the sides of her head as if she had a headache. "Eurgh... I thank you for letting me know about her. I really don't want to pick her, but if she really is the best choice, then we'd... I will have to lay down the law. I'm sorry, but you're a man and she has big boobs. You _might _be able to look her in the eyes and keep your wits, but I have my doubts. Blame Pete for ruining my faith in men resisting big titty'ed schemers."
You nodded and swiped the tablet screen. After a moment, Peg asked, "So who is Miss sunshine?"
"That'd be Raven from Teen Titans. She has powers similar to Heckapoo, but not as much experience and is a hero... though from what the tablet says, her being here cuts off her connection with her father, who is a evil demon. So she'd be grateful for both the connection being cut, but also a chance to make that loss permanent," You answered, recalling the comic based on the cartoon based on the comic.
"So... she might be the best one?" Peg asked with a smile.
"Possibly. Her powers are connected with her emotions, so strong angry or jealousy might cause objects and only objects to explode," You answered.
Peg's smile flattened. She opened and closed her mouth a few times before she asked, "Does it extend all the way to sex?"
"...Possibly?" You answered, not sure how to reply.
Peg closed her eyes and frowned in a sad way before she sighed, "So I might have to teach her how to masturbate... But after we get some kind of power neutralizer to make it safe for everyone."
Then she glared at you as she added, "And you won't peek, will you?"
"N-no, ma'am! I like being in one piece!" You nervously replied.
Peg smiled before kissing you on the cheek. "Good! Now let's see if we can find some more options. Just because we've found a good choice, doesn't mean it might be the best one."
