Chapter 4 by Fink Fink

Who is a scared little boy that wouldn't tempt fate?

A boy called Jakob.

"A day will come, when even dogs will eat from their master's table." — Jakob.

"By the Gods," you think, "what is this?"

The library is in a terrible state of disarray. The shelves that were once upright and holding books and scrolls have been turned over and their content scattered all over the floor of the archives. You would have thought a gale passed through here if you had not an idea of who had done this in the first place.

Robbin.

He must have orchestrated this for the cruel intention of spiting you if nothing else. This mess would take forever to clean up and that serves to deepen the hatred you have for him. It would do for you to report this unruliness to his mother, but then again, you would have better luck convincing the king to bathe in a moat. And so, without a particular aim in mind, you start by picking the papers and arranging them in a pile. These sort of situations tend to straighten themselves out when you just go with the flow. The shelves are particularly obstructive when you try to get something under them, so you try to lift one up.

Creak... That was your bone straining under the weight.

The shelf is made out of very heavy wood and takes all your might to heave. You are sweating and panting by the time you are done, yet you give a small harrumph of victory. This is no small feat after all. You turn to survey the room and there are only... eighteen... nineteen more shelves to go.

You sigh. This is going to be a long day.

"And The Aim of Yahweh for All Creation volume 50, goes in here..."

It has taken you your lunchtime all the way into evening.

"And Theory of Alchemy in here...'

But you have done it. All the shelves are now standing, the scrolls stored impeccably, and not a stray paper in sight. All that is left to do is cataloguing the books accordingly.

"The Affection Multiplier Tome ----"

You do a double take. The book you hold is unlike anything you have ever seen before. It is small; you can close your hands around it and nothing will be left. The copperish colored, worn out cover is an eyesore, what boggles you the most, is the artwork; a heart and plus sign. Below the diagram, are three words, faintly inscribed, Affection Multiplier Tome, it definitely reads. You are knowledgeable enough to know it looks so out of place in a library. So you slip it into your pocket with a mental promise to give it a look when you are done with your chores.

What will he find?
