Chapter 6 by Funtimes Funtimes

Your move as king

A ball

From your throne, you look down at Dietrich with his folded list in confident intellectual hands. "My loyal advisor, you must understand that I just came out of a celibate religious college. I wouldn't know the first thing about courting, or even what to look for in a girl on some list. More importantly, I need to spend my time learning how to rule."

Sir Dietrich blinks, as his stunned glare never leaves your royal body. "With all due respect, Sire,” he says, and you can hear the stress he puts on the title, like he’s reminding both of you who’s supposed to be in charge,” your rule will appear weak without an heir. A clear line of succession is key to internal stability." He rises just enough to lock eyes with you, pressing the point.

You start to doubt your chosen course. Dietrich is a knowledgeable gentleman, well-versed in the ways of rulers. He has long been one of your dead father’s most trusted advisors. It is said that he never once stared him wrong. In fact, if fast-moving roomers are to be believed, he even suggests that the former Prince and King not go on the trip that led to their royal deaths. As such, it is said that a King that wishes a short rule will not listen to his advice. But still you do not wish to go through his list of royal women, when you do not know the first thing about what a ROYAL IS. He rises just enough to lock eyes with you, pressing the point, list in hand like a weapon. "Even your enemies admit you are clever, but cleverness without legacy is a candle in the wind.”

You try to keep your voice steady, to sound like your own man. "If an heir is that important, then I'll just find someone and knock them up so I can get on with ruling the kingdom. This country just lost most of its line of succession, and I need to put all my effort into becoming a competent king before faith is lost in my line, and our coffers are emptied."

Sir Dietrich's mouth tightens, but he does not retreat. "Sire, be reasonable, we cannot let you go ruining your family bloodline with that of a commoner."

Sir Dietrich’s tone wavers your resolve to fight him, so you give in a little. "Then let's have a ball and invite some noble girls. I can get it down with whoever shows up, and whoever produces an heir gets the job."

"Sire, having you go around and lay with every woman there could create a war with ambitious relatives or worse, a full-scale noble revolt."

You slam your fist on your chair in frustration as you command, "Then you're going to have to find a way to make sure that it doesn't, because I there are other things I deem to require my attention!"

Sir Dietrich, understanding your determination, accepts your command and bows his head. "As you wish, my king."
