A Moment with Liam

“Hey.”

Setting my tray down atop the others, I turned to see Liam waiting. “What’s up?” This wasn’t like him. Usually, he went off with Sam and Ally after lunch. Kaylee had left with her teammates earlier, so it was just the two of us.

He looked uncomfortable, not meeting my eye. “About the whole Ally-Sam thing,” he began, rubbing the back of his neck. “You know we aren’t a thing, so if you turned them down because of me—“

“It was. Well, that wasn’t the entire reason why I turned it down, but it was certainly a part of it.” He finally looked at me. Now I felt awkward as I felt compelled to explain myself. “Sam and Ally are great and are certainly attractive, but that isn’t me.”

“I suppose that’s true. You were never one to chase after girls.”

I grinned. “Nope. My natural charm just attracts them.” He snorted, rolling his eyes. “What? It worked with Kaylee.”

“You got lucky.”

“Maybe, but I got lucky with the only person it mattered with.”

“Can’t argue with that logic,” he said with a laugh. Settling down, his smile faded into a grin. “Thanks. I know I shouldn’t care but…”

“Don’t mention it. I’d feel the same way if Kaylee made you the same offer.”

“Not going to lie, I would have taken up that offer in the past. Now though? The idea is just… weird. Even if you two weren’t dating. Kaylee is hot and all, but the idea of doing something beyond our current relationship doesn’t sit right with me.” He took a deep breath and I could see that he was trying to change the mood. “We still going to the gym after school?”

“Yeah. Mr. Webb is going to meet us there later.”

“Awesome! Love being able to push myself now that I have a spotter.”

Our conversation continued a few moments longer before we split to head to our next class.
