A Feast and the Next Room

Chapter 12 by dracone

Evan, the Kobold, and the Arachne all looked for seats that would work for them, the Arachne got annoyed when she had to stand at the table as the human and kobold took seats at the table. Suddenly the table was covered with an extravagant feast. There were roasted boar, roasted potatoes, roasted goose, a platter of roasted giant honeypot ants the size of grapefruits, 5 different kinds of salads made with exotic plants, a pitcher of honeyed wine, a pitcher of strawberry spring water, and a pitcher of classic fruit punch. The plates for all the places at the table were gold, the silverware was made from genuine silver, and the platters for the food looked like they were gold as well. The goblets were gold with a silver lining for the interior of the cup. The serving knives, forks, and tongs were all platinum. It really looked like a meal for nobility, it was just missing some fancy soup to complete the whole ordeal.

They all loaded up their plates, each showing their dietary preferences. Sakura loaded most of her plate up with meats, with a small section of her plate dedicated to a little bit of salad; Rilshara loaded most of her plate up with the roasted ants, also dedicating some of her plate to a few slabs of meat and a bit of salad; Evan loaded up an almost even distribution of meat and salad, he also plopped one of the roasted ants on it as something to sample. They ate in mostly silence, Evan wasn't sure what constituted good table etiquette in a situation like this, some people found it rude to converse during meals while others considered it of the greatest importance. He figured it would be best to wait until after the meal to continue the conversation with the two monster women. The meal itself felt like t dragged on for hours, it was really hard to know how time was passing without some reliable way to read the passage of time.

After they all had eaten their fill, as far as Evan knew, he was starting to feel stuffed when he said he had enough. The two women decided to stop around the same time as him. The moment they all confirmed they were done eating, the food, and appliances that went along with it vanished into thin air, and the door slid open. The doorway, and hallway beyond, looked more than wide enough to accommodate each of them. After walking the hallway for a few minutes they came to what looked like a massive sewing room, the walls were lined with shelves covered in bolts of fabric of all kinds, spools of thread of a wide variety, and a wide variety of fabric scissors and knives. The floor was well spaced with sewing stations every 15 to 20 feet that were everything from classic hand sewing needles to sophisticated sewing machines.

Rilshara gave a delighted gasp, followed by a giddy giggling laugh before saying, "As a seamstress, this chamber is like a dream come true."

"How about we try and find the instructions for moving on to the next area before you start pilfering the materials and tools for your own use later," said Evan in a neutral tone, it was clear he was trying to not offend the spider woman.

"Oh, right," said Rilshara, "I heard that dungeons will sometimes give you an extra special item if you can solve some of their puzzles. Sorry, I'm used to a more elite environment, this is all a bit new to me."
