A Bad Feeling

Chapter 94 by SilverSpectre006 SilverSpectre006

Syri rushed behind the two girls in her cat form, unnoticed and not too far behind. That wolf girl seemed to be in a mess, something was bothering her. As scary as she is to her, Syri felt it wouldn't be right to leave her alone. Then again they are strangers still, she didn't know her name well enough so how could she comfort her. Or is she following because Janette was worried too?

She paused for a moment, watching Janette close the door behind and sealing her means of entry. There is a window after all but... no. She isn't well acquainted yet, and now these thoughts were sending mixed messages. Am I worried for the girl, or am I worried for Janette? Is this what a crush is like? Or do I like her just because she is pretty?

So mamy questions toppled over each other, in the end she walked away and curled up on the floor uncertain of what to do. Well, I do hope they are both okay at least.

Janette closed the door behind her, leaning against it and silently preparing herself for this talk. Reta sat alone at the edge of the bed, eyes closed and posture bent forward with her hair dangling down. She looked out the window and caught sight of the crescent moon watching them, sitting beside her and brushing her thighs.

"Well, at least it's not a full moon. That would be quite a change, huh?"

No response.

"Well, I mean it only happens once a month so... we never did figure out why your form lasts several days."

Still nothing from her friend, well at least she wasn't pushing her away.

"So, do you-"

"You suck at this talking shit, you know?"

That earned a laugh to ease the tension a bit, at least for Janette.

"Well, it's-yea it sucks, I suck. Usually I get the talking to so, I don't know what to do here. Now I'm just thinking back at what Sitchi said to me and well... I don’t know. I don’t think it works like that, just repeating what she said." She shuffled in her posture, trying to keep a calm face.

At least Reta seemed amused albeit slightly. "Like what?"

"Huh?"

"Like what would she say?"

She blinked before laughing suddenly. "Geez way to put me on the spot there. I don’t know now that you asked, hm."

She leaned back before snapping her fingers, "Okay, we have our bad days to appreciate the good ones more."

"Cheesy."

"Well, when you find yourself in darkness look for the light."

"Cliché."

"Erm, with great-"

"Oh please."

"Okay screw this!" She threw her hands in the air as her friend laughed at the reaction. Just as she reached for the door she felt a hand tug at her thigh.

"Wait, I can be a bitch sometimes. I don't want to talk about it right now, it’s really personal. Maybe another time, just I wasn't ready for that response."

Janette nodded, leaning against the wall. "It doesn't give that answer unless whatever you're asking for is out of reach."

"What does that even mean, the book has a signal?" She scoffed.

"Not exactly." She replied, shaking her head. "It's powered by magic, but sometimes when you ask for the whereabouts or status of others, it doesn't work very well. It's old, and really it sounds to me more you might be asking the wrong thing. It's why I don't keep it around, it isn't as efficient in what it does. Besides, one less reason to have people looking at my house to rob."

Reta smirked. "In this mansion? I can't think of any reason why someone would seek to rob it."

She crossed her arms and clicked her tongue. "Touche. Glad you feel better though."

"I don't, I feel like shit inside. But talking to you helps so, whatever. I-"

Suddenly she sat up straight, eyes wide before getting off the bed and approaching the window.

"What, caught yourself a squirrel?" Janette joked, her smile faiding away as Reta shook her head. "Then what?"

"Do you ever get that feeling when you are alone, when you're guard is down and you realize how dark it is? The cold feeling down your back? I just got that. I think I need to check on the lovebirds, I'll be right back."

Syri sat up and moved out of the way as Reta walked out, flinching in reaction.

"Crap! You always try to get yourself stepped on?" She growled before walking away. Janette stepped out the door, curious to what that reaction came from.

She mewed and leaped up to Janette's shoulder, licking her cheek playfully. "Oh, you're certainly in a good mood. What's got you so happy?"

She mewed softly in return, rubbing against her face which lifted Janette more. Feeling cute, she grabbed the small cat and held her in a cradle position, enjoying her soft purrs. She heard footsteps approaching.

"Aww, look at you two. That's adorable."

They looked up to find Emyri beaming at what she found, before she could speak up Emyri held up her paw first. "A moment, before you explain I need help. Could you open the front doors for me? Paws." She smiled, waving hers in the air.

Janette smiled and nodded, leading the way before opening and steppibg outside with the Nekomata still in her hands. "Taking a walk?"

"Somewhat, I'm checking on Dimyri. I tried calling around but she doesn't seem near."

"Maybe she's walking around close by?"

Emyri shook her head before holding her chest. "No, something is off I can tell. It's a bad feeling inside."

Suddenly Janette grew worried. Now she was starting to have that bad feeling as well.
