"Check over the wounded!"

Lael commanded the A-rank healers after dragging back multiple allies from their most recent battle. Settling down in the broken wagon carefully, he listened to the unsettling groans behind him. His muscles flexed through his torn garbs with heavy bandages tied beneath. Stains of blood and new scaring littered his frame. The healers rushed over to his side to heal him first, only for him to refuse.

"Assist them first. Find me after they recover. I need to check in with my wife."

He ordered, stepping past the healers, leaving them to deal with his order.

Lael's command echoed through the makeshift camp, a grim reminder of the toll the celestial hydra was taking on their forces. The A-rank healers, a motley crew of mages and clerics, sprang into action, their hands glowing with restorative magic as they tended to the wounded. The air was thick with the scent of blood and the low hum of healing spells.

The healers moved with practiced efficiency, their hands passing over the wounded, knitting flesh and bone back together. The glow of their magic cast an ethereal light across the camp, painting the faces of the injured in shades of emerald and sapphire. Groans of pain gradually subsided into sighs of relief as the healers worked tirelessly, their magic weaving through the air like a symphony of life.

"We lost ten more today."

Kuina greeted her husband, staunching a nasty wound with wadded up bandages, soaking crimson with her blood. She was the fastest and strongest member in this rally of adventures, so having her hurt meant they were really up against something insanely strong.

"Damn it."

Lael muttured, training his eyes over his wife, it pained him seeing her hurt like this. He led her into the largest tent in the makeshift camp. At the center was a rickety table with a parchment map of the area. About fifty lives, possibly more had already been lost from dealing with the hydra. As for the strongest pair there - Kuina and Lael, it'd been an unstable stand-still since day one.

"Any word of the capital sending reinforcements? It's been five weeks now. I'm confident you're addressing them consistently about our situation."

Lael strongly said boldly to one of the messenger mages within the tent, she was no more than a young fairy. She looked up from her messenger butterfly with a worrisome expression on her face.

"Nothing yet today... the last message came in two days ago... the King of Órns relayed that their forces are stretched too thin. The same was said for the numerous adventurers guilds across the nation..."

She explained.

The atmosphere within the command tent grew heavy with the weight of the messenger's words. Lael's jaw tightened, and he exchanged a glance with Kuina, the silent communication between them speaking volumes. The absence of reinforcements was a dire omen for their campaign against the celestial hydra.

Kuina took a heavy seat on one of the barrels, wincing as the healers fanned around her, dousing the wound in **** before stitching the gnarled flesh and forcing healing potions into her mouth.

"This is a triple S tiered celestial beast - we've never been more out of our element."

Kuina mentioned dryly. The healers worked diligently on her, their hands moving with practiced precision as they tended to her wounds. The scent of antiseptic and the sharp tang of healing potions filled the air, mingling with the metallic smell of blood. The glow of their magic pulsed in rhythm with their chanting, weaving a complex tapestry of light and sound that permeated the tent.

A healer cautiously hoverered her hands over Lael's bandages, one of his earlier wounds having reopened, staining the bandages in red. His brow lowered, giving the healer a nod before dismissing her.

"We're only S-rank adventurers, there's only so much our rank can do to a monster like that."

He agreed, folding his arms against his broad chest. His green gaze met the table again, watching the messenger shift camp site markers east with the hydra model shifting north before stopping.

"What I'd like to know, is why those damn assholes in the skies sent down this monster in the first place."

The healer respectfully retreated, understanding Lael’s stoicism and his determination to remain functional despite his injuries. The air in the tent crackled with tension as Lael voiced his frustration, his question hanging heavy in the silence. The messenger fairy flinched slightly, her delicate wings fluttering nervously.

“The celestial realm… their motives are often beyond our comprehension, sir.”

The messenger fairy stammered, her voice barely a whisper.

“There are… whispers among the higher-ups. Theories about a celestial civil war, a power struggle… perhaps this hydra was sent as a weapon, a test, or even simply… discarded.”

Lael's cold gaze was strikingly unwavering, meeting his wife's blue eyes for a moment.

"No matter the reason - it's here and we're the only ones present to slay the creature."

Kuina's words cut through the tense atmosphere, a stark reminder of the responsibility that rested on their shoulders. She met Lael’s gaze, a silent understanding passing between them. The weight of the kingdom, and perhaps even more, rested on their success.

A heavy silence descended upon the tent, broken only by the soft murmurs of the healers attending to Kuina and the rustling of the messenger fairy’s wings. Lael turned his attention back to the map, his fingers tracing the hydra’s projected path. The creature was moving north, steadily encroaching upon the heartland of the Kingdom of Órns. It's capital.

"We need a different approach. Currently the bastard has three heads."

Lael paused, they were advancing, but at the cost of more lives. Keeping it safe meant less lives lost, but greater chances for slip ups in pursuit of everyone's safety - also giving the beast time to recover its lost heads and multiply. The S-rank adventure breathed heavily, weighing the options out on the table.

"This is the weakest we've managed to get it, causing it to become more **** and agitated. We've seen that with the ten lives lost today."

Lael’s words hung in the air, a grim assessment of their current situation. He ran a hand through his hair, his expression troubled. The hydra’s adaptability was proving to be a significant challenge, forcing them to constantly re-evaluate their strategy. The more they pushed, the more unpredictable the beast became.

"Don't become careless now with planning."

Kuina murmured, folding her arms across her bountiful bossoms she cringed slightly from the lingering pain.

"Just because we managed to weaken it, doesn't mean anything if we end up dying in the process. All the lives lost will mean nothing."

Kuina’s sharp tone cut through Lael’s thoughts, grounding him in the present moment. Her words were a stern reminder of the stakes involved, and the importance of maintaining a clear head even in the face of desperation. Lael nodded slowly, acknowledging her point. Caution was paramount; recklessness could undo all their progress.

Lael took a long breath before continuing, taking in the fine points reminded by Kuina.

"There is a traders path just seven kilometers away, due North - North East. Leading through a valley of rock and stone."

He paused, positioning mage pawns on the table around said valley.

"If we can lure it away from its current path and **** it into this focal point here..."

"What do you plan on.."

Kuina muttered before Lael cut her off unexpectedly.

"Yes. Crushing, or entrapment. Caving in the valley on the beast with explosive magic. Weighing it down and limiting its movement for us to slay."

Kuina’s question hung unfinished in the air as Lael outlined his plan. A flicker of surprise crossed her face, quickly replaced by a calculating gaze. The idea was audacious, risky, but potentially effective. Entrapping the hydra in a collapsed valley would severely limit its mobility, making it a far more manageable target.

"How do you plan on luring it away from its current path?"

Kuina asked, making sure her husband was still somewhat sane.

Lael tapped a finger on the map, his gaze fixed on the hydra’s projected path.

“We use a small, heavily shielded team to draw its attention. Create a series of controlled disturbances – magical flares, earth quaking or explosive booms, anything to provoke it and steer it towards the valley. It’s a dangerous gambit, but it’s our best chance to funnel it into a kill zone.”

He straightened himself up, gazing up into his wife's calculative stare.

"And I'll be leading that team, ensuring that beast follows. Whatever it takes, with the safety of the crew in mind."

Kuina studied the map, her brow furrowed in concentration. The plan was fraught with peril, relying on precise execution and a significant degree of luck. Lael volunteering to lead the diversionary team only amplified her concern.

“Absolutely not."

Kuina stated firmly, her voice leaving no room for argument.

“You’re already injured. Leading the team is out of the question. I’ll take the lead, you focus on coordinating the explosive collapse. Your strategic mind is more valuable here.”

Lael’s jaw tightened, and he shook his head resolutely.

“No, Kuina. You’re still recovering. You need to be at full strength for the final ****. This diversion requires someone who can react quickly, someone who can anticipate the hydra’s movements. I'm the best suited for it.”

He met her gaze again, his expression unwavering.

“I won’t risk your life on a reckless maneuver.”

Kuina’s eyes narrowed, a spark of defiance igniting within them.

“Reckless? You call leading a diversion against a triple-S celestial beast reckless - when you’re nursing a reopened wound? That’s arrogance, Lael, not bravery.”

She slammed a hand on the table, rattling the mage pawns.

“I’ve faced down greater threats with less. Don’t underestimate me.”

"It's because of this wound, I'll be leading this team!"

Lael finally snapped, slamming his fist on the table knocking the pieces over.

"I am not underestimating you Kuina."

He took a long, much needed breath before continuing.

"If this attempt goes south, if it doesn't so much as kill that bastard. I'll need you to run. Flee to the capital, and get our children out of there."

The **** of Lael’s outburst silenced the tent. The healers flinched, and the messenger fairy huddled further into the shadows. Kuina stared at Lael, her expression shifting from anger to a dawning realization. The raw desperation in his voice, the weight of his responsibility, finally broke through her stubborn resistance. He wasn’t simply asserting his authority; he was preparing for the worst, making a contingency plan in case he failed.

"The same is said for everyone here. If your loved ones are in its path. Immediately head back home and evacuate everyone that you can."

Lael lowered his tone, narrowing his gaze back to the table. A sense of dread washed over him.

"That's an order."

A somber acknowledgement filled the tent as the assembled team members nodded in unison. The weight of Lael’s words settled upon them, a grim reminder of the potential consequences of their failure. It wasn’t just a battle for glory or the kingdom; it was a fight for their families, their homes, their very way of life. The messenger fairy, despite her fear, straightened her wings, a newfound resolve hardening within her gaze.

Lael spent the next hour meticulously detailing the plan, outlining each step with precision. He assigned roles, reviewed emergency protocols, and ensured everyone understood their responsibilities. Kuina, though still visibly displeased, assisted in the preparations, her expertise proving invaluable in refining the strategy. The atmosphere was thick with tension, but also with a grim determination.

As the final preparations were completed, Lael turned to Kuina, his expression softening. He reached out and gently cupped her face in his hands, his thumbs tracing the curve of her cheekbones.

"Don't worry my love, I'll come back to you."

Kuina leaned into Lael’s touch, her eyes brimming with unspoken emotion. She placed her hand over his, her fingers interlacing with his.

“Come back safely.”

She whispered, her voice barely audible.

“And don’t do anything… foolish.”

A small, sad smile touched her lips. A final plea, knowing just how reckless her husband could be. She cradled her hands around his head in return, and pulled his face down to hers - brushing her lips firmly against Lael's, planting a passionate kiss on him with a loving firmness only she could provide.

Lael returned her kiss with equal fervor, a silent promise passing between them. He pulled back slightly, his gaze locking with hers. A moment of quiet intimacy, a fragile connection in the face of impending danger. He then turned, addressing the team with a commanding tone.

“Alright, let’s move out.”

Lael’s voice resonated with authority, cutting through the lingering tension. The team, comprised of seasoned adventurers and skilled mages, swiftly mobilized, donning their armor and preparing their spells. Lael led the way, his injured arm held steady, his gaze fixed on the path ahead. They moved with practiced efficiency, a silent procession of warriors heading towards a confrontation with a monstrous foe.

Splitting off in their respected teams, Kuina took a vast majority of mages and warriors immediately to the valley via flight. Lael took flight in the opposite direction for the hydra, taking Class A mages by his side. Consisting of one fairy, a demon, some demi-humans and an elf.

The sky above the plains became a flurry of motion as the teams separated, each embarking on their designated path. Kuina’s squadron, a formidable **** of mages and warriors, soared towards the valley, their wings beating in unison. The air crackled with magical energy as they prepared to unleash their explosive ****. Meanwhile, Lael’s smaller, more agile team ascended in the opposite direction, tracking the celestial hydra’s relentless advance. The fairy, a nimble scout, led the way, her iridescent wings shimmering in the sunlight. The demon, a master of dark magic, exuded an aura of ominous power. From the demi-humans, a skilled tracker scanned the horizon for any sign of the beast. And the elf, an archer of unparalleled precision, prepared to unleash a volley of enchanted arrows. Lael, despite his injury, remained at the forefront, his deeo green eyes scanning the skies, his mind calculating every possible scenario. The journey towards the hydra was fraught with tension. The air grew heavy with a palpable sense of dread as they neared the creature’s territory. Strange distortions rippled through the atmosphere, and the landscape below seemed to warp and twist. The fairy scout, Olivia, suddenly veered sharply to the left, her voice a frantic whisper in their comms.

“Hydra sighted! Bearing two-seven-zero, altitude three thousand...”

Olivia's voice trembled slightly, betraying her shock.

“And it’s actively destroying the barrier remnants. It’s like… it knows we’re coming.”

Lael’s gaze snapped towards the indicated direction, and his blood ran cold. There it was - a grotesque silhouette against the azure sky, a monstrous amalgamation of scales, claws, and serpentine necks. The celestial hydra, even from this distance, radiated an aura of immense power. It moved with an unnatural grace, its multiple heads weaving and snapping, each one capable of unleashing a devastating attack. He could see the remnants of the magical barrier, shattered and flickering like dying embers, the hydra effortlessly tearing through the last vestiges of protection.

"Damn celestial bastard."

Lael snarled at the sight. The monster emitted a golden hue with platinum scales that embraced its body. Three twisting necks leading to three separate yet similar heads. The monster was ever so beautiful - much like the cloudy heavens, but equally as dangerous.

"Olivia, send a message to Kuina and the others. Let them know we have eyes on the beast and we're ready to engage."

“Acknowledged.”

Olivia responded, her voice regaining a semblance of composure. She swiftly relayed the message to Kuina’s team, her nimble fingers dancing across a illuminating butterfly. Lael turned to his assembled team, his expression grim. The demon, Raziel, cracked his knuckles with black flames around them, a sinister grin spreading across his face. The demi-humans, Jasper and Komi, pulled their grimoires out by their sides. The twin harpies had a fierce determination emanating from their aura. The elf, Ailre, her gaze unwavering from the terror before them. Lael surveyed his team, a flicker of determination igniting within him. They were outnumbered, outmatched, but they were the last line of defense.

"Listen, all we need to do is to lure it away to the checkpoint. Do not engage head to head with the creature. Conserve your strongest spells for once we trap it. Got it?"

Lael commanded, making sure his small team understood the objective.

A chorus of acknowledgements echoed through the comms as each member of the team confirmed their understanding. Raziel, the demon, smirked.

“Lure it? Child’s play. Though I must admit, the prospect of a prolonged engagement with such a magnificent beast is… tempting.”

Jasper, the demi-human tracker, nodded solemnly.

“Understood. We prioritize evasion and containment.”

Ailre, the elf, tightened her grip on her grimoire.

“I’ll provide cover fire and ensure a clean escape route.”

Olivia, the fairy scout, added.

“I’ll maintain visual contact and guide us towards the checkpoint.”

Lael surveyed his team, a glimmer of hope flickering within him. They were a diverse group, each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses, but united by a common purpose. He took a deep breath, steeling his resolve.

“Let’s move.”

Lael finally commanded, his voice resonating with authority. He turned in the air with a simple wind spell, leading the charge towards the celestial hydra. The team followed closely behind, maintaining a tight formation as they navigated the treacherous airspace. As they approached the beast, the hydra’s attention shifted, its multiple heads swiveling in their direction. It unleashed a deafening roar, a sound that seemed to shake the very foundations of the world. A wave of celestial energy erupted from its mouths, scorching the air and leaving trails of shimmering light. Lael expertly maneuvered around the light, evading the initial barrage with a combination of skill and luck. He signaled to Olivia, the fairy scout, to begin the diversion. Olivia responded instantly, darting forward with incredible speed, weaving through the hydra’s attacks and drawing its attention. The hydra, intrigued by the nimble fairy, turned its attention towards Olivia, its massive heads following her erratic movements. It unleashed a stream of celestial fire, narrowly missing her as she deftly dodged and weaved.

"Come here you overgrown lizard!"

Olivia shouted out as a barrage of magic lightning arrows shot down from the skies above. Heavy shockwaves rippled off of the hydra as Ailre's attack finished, barely causing any damage but clearly pissing it off.

The shells on the hydra’s back begins to split and break apart. Waves of energy flowed out in response, flapping eerily similar to wings - increasing in size to accommodate the mass of its large body, rising slowly and effortlessly.

"Alright, everyone in formation! Olivia lead the way!"

Lael commanded.

"Ailre and Jasper, higher altitude on my left! Raziel and Komi, lower altitude on my right!"

Lael was acting as a center shield whilst attacks from his comrades rained down on the beast.

The hydra's transformation was horrifyingly majestic. As the shells on its back splintered and broke apart, waves of celestial energy pulsed outwards, coalescing into massive, ethereal wings. The wings expanded, growing larger and larger, until they dwarfed even the hydra’s colossal frame. The beast ascended effortlessly, rising into the sky with an unnatural grace, its multiple heads surveying the landscape with predatory intent. It was no longer merely a ground-based threat; it had become a creature of the heavens, capable of unleashing its fury from above.

Lael barked out more orders, his voice cutting through the rising chaos. The team swiftly reorganized, falling into the designated formation. Olivia, true to her nature, darted ahead, a beacon of light leading them towards the checkpoint, luring the hydra further away from the kingdom’s weakened barriers. Ailre and Jasper ascended to Lael’s left, their forms becoming smaller against the vast expanse of the sky, preparing to unleash a barrage of ranged attacks. Raziel and Komi descended to his right, their dark magic swirling around them, ready to counter any sudden maneuvers.

"Spirits of these lands, hear my call. I beckon for the protection of my comrades as we traverse these skies from undeniable peril... reflective shield!"

Lael chanted out, illuminating the space behind the tightly knit group - giving away to a massive enchanted circle in the air behind them as they flew.

A shimmering, translucent shield materialized behind the team, pulsating with a soft, ethereal glow. It wasn’t a physical barrier, but rather a distortion of light and energy, bending and deflecting incoming attacks. The air around the shield crackled with power, a testament to Lael’s potent magic. It was a protective measure, designed to absorb and redirect the hydra’s celestial energy, giving them a crucial layer of defense.

The hydra, seemingly unfazed by their efforts, unleashed another torrent of celestial fire, a blinding stream of golden energy that hurtled towards the team. The fire slammed into Lael’s reflective shield, the impact sending shockwaves through the air. The shield shimmered and strained, but held firm, absorbing the brunt of the attack and dispersing the remaining energy harmlessly into the atmosphere. However, the **** of the impact was considerable, causing the team to stumble and lose altitude.

Raziel and Ailre unleashed a coordinated ****, their combined magical firepower tearing through the air. The demon’s hells flames erupted in a torrent of black fire, forming dozens of searing arrows that streaked towards the hydra’s heads. Simultaneously, Ailre unleashed a volley of blazing arrows, each one tipped with shimmering, ethereal energy. The arrows pierced the hydra’s scales, causing explosions of celestial energy. Unphased with minor chips in its armored scales. The attack only seemed to anger it even more.

The hydra responded to the attack with a furious roar, its multiple heads snapping towards Raziel and Ailre. It unleashed a concentrated beam of celestial energy from each of its mouths, three searing pillars of light that converged on the two spellcasters. Lael, reacting instantly, reinforced the reflective shield, channeling more of his energy into the barrier to withstand the onslaught. The shield pulsed violently, absorbing the brunt of the attack, but the sheer **** of the celestial energy threatened to overwhelm it. Cracks began to spiderweb across its surface, the ethereal glow dimming with each impact.

"How much further to the checkpoint!"

Lael grit out.

“Just beyond the ridge, sir! Two more minutes at this speed!”

Olivia’s voice crackled over the increasing wind speeds, strained but clear. She continued to weave and dart, expertly leading the group with the hydra on a chase, drawing it further away from the regions’s **** defenses. Lael activated a magical speed boost, a surge of magical energy propelling them forward, increasing their velocity and allowing them to narrowly evade the hydra’s snapping jaws. The landscape blurred around them as they raced towards the checkpoint, the wind screaming in their ears. The reflective shield, battered and weakened, continued to hold, but Lael could feel its energy reserves dwindling with each passing moment. He needed to find a way to end this quickly, before the shield collapsed and left them **** to the hydra’s relentless attacks.

As they crested the ridge, the checkpoint came into view—a fortified outpost nestled amongst the jagged peaks, bristling with magical defenses and manned by a contingent of seasoned adventurers. Relief washed over Lael, but he knew they weren't safe yet. The hydra, enraged by their escape, was gaining on them, its massive wings beating furiously as it closed the distance.

"Descend! We need this bastard as low to the ground as we can get it!"

Lael yelled his command, glancing back at the hydra as one of its mouths began to glow.

"Quickly!"

The team responded instantly, breaking formation and initiating a controlled descent towards the checkpoint. They dove downwards, angling their flight paths to bring the hydra closer to the ground. The outpost’s defenses sprang to life, energy cannons powering up and magical barriers shimmering into existence, preparing to assist in the final confrontation. As they descended, Lael noticed the hydra’s mouth glowing with an ominous energy, a clear indication that it was preparing to unleash a devastating attack. He braced himself, reinforcing the reflective shield one last time, knowing that this might be their final stand.

"Now!"

The checkpoint erupted in a symphony of destruction. As the hydra descended, the mages unleashed a torrent of spells, encasing the surrounding mountainsides in a web of explosive runes. Simultaneously, the outpost’s energy cannons unleashed a devastating barrage, beams of concentrated energy slamming into the hydra’s armored scales. The hydra, caught in the crossfire, roared in fury as the mountainsides around it began to crumble, triggering a massive landslide. The beast struggled to maintain its flight, buffeted by the explosions and the collapsing terrain. It was a **** gamble, a coordinated attack designed to trap the hydra within the collapsing valley, sealing it off from the kingdom and preventing further destruction.

"Fire everything you have! Show this bastard how we fight!"

Lael ordered his small team as he rushed down into the fray to join his wife, desiring to finish this once and for all.

The remaining adventurers and mages unleashed a final, **** ****. Raziel summoned a swarm of shadow demons, unleashing them upon the hydra’s heads, while Ailre rained down a barrage of enchanted arrows. Olivia, weaving through the chaos, unleashed a concentrated beam of light, targeting the hydra’s **** underbelly. Lael, descending into the fray, joined Kuina at the forefront, his hands crackling with magical energy as he prepared to deliver the final blow. The hydra, weakened and disoriented, thrashed wildly, its multiple heads snapping and biting at anything within reach. The valley trembled as the battle reached its climax, the fate of the Kingdom of Órns hanging in the balance.

Lael clasped his wife's shoulder with a brunt transfer of what mana remained in him. Kuina's sword lit a dark crimson flame with static electricity buzzing around her feet.

"Give it hell dear... come back to me when you finish."

Kuina met Lael’s gaze, her blue eyes filled with a mixture of determination and concern. She accepted the transfer of his remaining mana, a surge of energy coursing through her veins, amplifying her already formidable power. The crimson flame engulfing her sword intensified, crackling with static electricity, and her feet began to glow with the same ominous energy. A dark aura emanated from her, a testament to her unwavering resolve.

With a battle cry that echoed through the collapsing valley, Kuina launched herself towards the hydra, her crimson blade arcing through the air. She moved with blinding speed, dodging snapping jaws - her every strike aimed at the hydra’s **** points, its necks. Dodging the storm of spells from above, zipping pass and around its heads as they glowed angrily.

Kuina’s blade found its mark, slicing through the hydra’s scales with ease. A jet of celestial energy erupted from the wound, but Kuina pressed on, her movements relentless. The flames of her sword immediately cauterizing the wounds to prevent more heads from growing. She danced around the hydra’s attacks, a whirlwind of crimson steel, targeting the joints between its heads, seeking to sever the connections and cripple the beast. With each strike, the hydra’s roars grew weaker, its movements more sluggish. The landslide continued to gain momentum, burying the lower portions of the hydra’s body in rubble and rock. The outpost’s cannons continued to fire, adding to the relentless ****, while the mages maintained their barrage of spells.

Kuina, fueled by Lael’s mana and her own unwavering determination, focused her attack on the central neck of the hydra, the nexus point connecting its multiple heads. With a final, **** surge of energy, she channeled all her power into a single, devastating strike. The crimson flame on her blade flared blindingly, and she brought the sword down with all her might.

The blade cleaved through the hydra’s central neck, severing the connection between its heads. A blinding explosion of celestial energy erupted, throwing Kuina backwards through the air. The hydra’s remaining heads thrashed wildly, momentarily disconnected and disoriented. The landslide reached its peak, engulfing the beast in a torrent of rock and debris. A deafening silence descended upon the valley, broken only by the rumbling of the collapsing mountainside.

Dust and debris filled the air, obscuring the scene. Slowly, as the dust began to settle, the extent of the devastation became clear. The valley was a scene of utter chaos, littered with rubble and scarred by the remnants of the battle. The hydra lay buried beneath a mountain of rock, its multiple heads motionless, its celestial energy extinguished.

Kuina stumbled, catching herself before collapsing completely. Her crimson flames flickered and died, leaving her sword dull and lifeless. She leaned heavily on it for support, her breath ragged and shallow, her body trembling with exhaustion. Her gaze fixed on the flopping heads, their **** struggles a grim statement to the battle’s ferocity. They writhed and spasmed, gasping for air that would never come, their celestial energy fading with each passing moment. It was a gruesome sight, but Kuina didn’t flinch, her expression stoic, her eyes filled with a quiet sense of relief. The threat was neutralized, the kingdom safe—for now. An exhausted smile ghosted across her lips briefly, her blue eyes travelling to her husband as she lifted her hand to wave him over-

A piercing shriek suddenly tore through the aftermath of the battle, silencing the rumbling of the landslide. Kuina’s eyes widened in horror as a blinding flash of light erupted from the sky, striking her directly. The **** of the impact sent her sprawling, her body slamming against the rocky ground. Before she could even process what had happened, a searing pain ripped through her left arm, and she watched in disbelief as it cleanly detached from her body, soaring through the air before landing with a sickening thud. A crimson stain bloomed on her shoulder, spreading rapidly across her armor. The smile that had graced her lips moments before vanished, replaced by a look of utter shock and agony.

"Kuina!"

Chaos erupted once more as Lael’s shout echoed through the valley. Healers rushed forward, scrambling over the debris, their hands glowing with restorative energy. Lael, ignoring the jagged rocks and treacherous terrain, slid down the mountainside with reckless abandon, his face contorted with worry. Kuina, still reeling from the shock, stared at the severed limb, her mind struggling to comprehend what had happened. She glanced back at the lifeless hydra, a wave of confusion washing over her. It was over. They had won. So why…? A wave of dizziness swept over her, and she felt her vision begin to blur. The pain in her shoulder intensified, and she instinctively clutched at the wound, trying to stem the flow of blood.

“Lael…”

She muttered, her voice barely audible above the din of activity.

Another blinding flash of light descended from the heavens, striking with pinpoint accuracy. This time, it targeted Lael, severing his legs cleanly at the knees. He cried out, a strangled sound of disbelief and agony, as his body tumbled forward, landing heavily beside Kuina. The **** of the impact sent a jolt of pain through her already injured shoulder. A crimson mist filled the air, mingling with the dust and debris. Kuina stared in horror at the sight of her husband, his eyes wide with shock, his face pale with pain.

"Lael!"

She screamed, her voice raw with anguish. Lael, despite his horrific injuries, reached out a trembling hand towards her, his gaze filled with **** love.

"Don't... worry... m'luv..."

He gasped, his voice weak and strained.

"I... got you."

Lael’s calloused hand fell limp, his green eyes losing focus as shock threatened to consume him. The healers, momentarily paralyzed by the sheer brutality of the attack, finally snapped into action, rushing towards the fallen adventurers. But even as they began to administer aid, a chilling realization dawned upon them. The attacks weren’t random. They weren’t the result of lingering celestial energy. They were… targeted. Deliberate.

"Poor Xeion. He did not deserve this."

A woman's voice echoed eerily. In a ray of light, a winged female appeared next to Lael and Kuina. Wearing a crisp suit, the woman had bright illuminating wings and crimson hair, her eyes golden with a dark hue to them. A thorned halo rested over her head, emitting a stormy amount of mana. The woman appeared sad, not at the humans, no, but at her fallen beast.

The woman’s arrival brought a hush over the chaotic scene. Her presence radiated power, a palpable **** that seemed to quell the frantic energy of the healers. She knelt beside Lael and Kuina, her gaze lingering on their grievous wounds with a sorrowful expression. Her crimson hair cascaded around her shoulders, framing a face etched with a profound sadness. The thorned halo above her head pulsed with raw mana, casting an eerie glow upon the surrounding landscape.

“Xeion was… ambitious.”

The woman said, her voice a melodic whisper that carried effortlessly through the valley. She didn’t acknowledge the stunned silence of those around her, her attention solely focused on the fallen adventurers.

“He believed he could surpass his brethren, claim a dominion of his own. I warned him against challenging the Celestial Court, but he wouldn’t listen.”

She gently touched Lael’s severed legs, a flicker of regret crossing her features.

“Such potential… wasted. He only ever wanted to prove his worth. He, finally grew in his wings too, only for you both to bring him down.”

The woman’s golden eyes, flecked with black, finally met Kuina’s gaze. There was no malice in them, only a profound sadness and a hint of… disappointment.

“You mortals.”

She murmured, her voice laced with ancient weariness.

“Always striving, always reaching for what is beyond your grasp. Xeion never attacked you, but you always attacked him. Angering him to the point of defending himself. Have you no shame, mortal?"

A tense silence descended upon the valley, broken only by the crackling of the healers’ restorative magic. Kuina, despite her pain and shock, met the woman’s gaze with unwavering defiance.

“Defending himself?”

She rasped, her voice strained.

“He attacked us! He nearly killed us! You call that self-defense?”

She gestured weakly towards Lael, his body still lying motionless beside her.

“He targeted us deliberately. That wasn’t the act of a creature merely defending its territory.”

"Did I tell you to speak?"

A sharp crack echoed through the valley as the woman’s hand connected with Kuina’s jaw, sending her tumbling backwards, landing heavily on top of Lael’s body. The impact stole the air from her lungs, and a searing pain blossomed across her face. She tasted blood, metallic and acrid, and struggled to regain her bearings. The winged woman’s golden eyes blazed with icy fury.

"Insolent mortals."

The angelic figure huffed, displacing her hands against her own waist. She cast her gaze back to Xeion, his once radiant body now lifeless beneath smothering rock.

"No amount of mortal lives could ever bring back such a magnificent creature. Created by God herself, only to be tarnished in the most barbaric way possible. It, it sickens me..."

The woman’s voice trembled with barely contained grief as she turned her attention back to the mangled remains of Xeion. Her gaze swept over the shattered scales, the broken wings, and the lifeless eyes, a wave of sorrow washing over her features. She closed her eyes, taking a deep, shuddering breath, as if trying to quell the rising tide of despair.

“He was… a masterpiece.”

She whispered, her voice barely audible.

“A testament to the divine artistry of the Creator. Each scale, each feather, imbued with celestial energy. And now… reduced to this.”

She opened her eyes, her gaze hardening with a cold resolve.

“You have earned my displeasure, mortals. Not merely for slaying Xeion, but for defiling his existence.”

She paused, slowly raising her hands as they begun to glow with a radiant aura. It's glow, as captivating as it was deadly, began to suck in the surrounding mana.

"Don't worry Xeion, these insects will pay. We shall finish what you started, and claim the very lands that stole your life away from us."

The air crackled with energy as the woman began to channel her power. The radiant aura surrounding her intensified, casting long, dancing shadows across the valley. A visible ripple distorted the air, drawing in the ambient mana like a vortex. The healers, sensing the impending danger, instinctively retreated, their faces pale with fear. Even the seasoned adventurers amongst them felt a primal urge to flee, to escape the wrath of this celestial being.

The woman’s voice, laced with chilling finality, echoed through the valley as she unleashed her devastating attack.

“Star Fall.”

Two spheres of pure, celestial energy erupted from her palms, ascending rapidly into the heavens. They didn’t simply rise; they fractured, splitting into countless shimmering fragments that multiplied exponentially, transforming into a swirling vortex of incandescent light. It was a breathtakingly beautiful, yet terrifying spectacle.

Then, the storm descended. The fragments of celestial energy streaked across the sky like shooting stars, but instead of fading into harmless beauty, they plunged towards the valley with terrifying speed and precision. Each shard was guided by an unseen ****, unerringly targeting any living being that resonated with magical energy.

The first impacts were instantaneous and catastrophic. Adventurers caught directly by the celestial shards erupted in blinding flashes of light, their bodies vaporizing into motes of golden dust. Healers, desperately attempting to erect protective barriers, found their spells dissolving before the sheer power of the attack. The ground trembled as fragments slammed into the earth, leaving behind craters of scorched rock and sizzling energy. A wave of searing heat washed over the valley, suffocating and oppressive.

Kuina, fueled by adrenaline and sheer willpower, struggled to her feet, ignoring the searing pain that lanced through her body. She braced herself, expecting a shard to strike her down, but none came. It quickly became clear: the angel wasn’t indiscriminately destroying everything in her path. The attacks were targeted, precise. And they were deliberately avoiding her and Lael.

A chilling realization dawned on Kuina as she watched the carnage unfold. The angel wanted them to witness this. Each scream, each **** plea for mercy, each flash of annihilation – it was all for their benefit. The woman’s gaze remained fixed on them, cold and unwavering, as if relishing their helplessness. It was a display of power, a brutal demonstration of the chasm that separated mortals from the celestial beings.

A cruel smile twisted the angel’s lips as she spoke the words, directing them to an unseen entity.

“We can’t forget what you’ve both been protecting now. Orlon, destroy the barrier to their sacred region.”

The very air seemed to vibrate with the weight of her command.

Almost immediately, a flickering, ethereal light descended from the distant horizon, barely perceptible at first, then growing rapidly in intensity. It streaked across the sky, bypassing the ongoing “Star Fall” as if untouchable, and slammed into the ground beyond the valley, precisely where Kuina and Lael knew the protective barrier surrounding the Kingdom of Órns lay.

The impact was cataclysmic. The earth buckled and heaved, as if struck by a colossal hammer. A shockwave rippled outwards, blasting dust and debris in all directions with particles of a once powerful shield. The very foundations of the valley seemed to groan in protest, as fissures spiderwebbed across the landscape. Dust and debris billowed into the air, obscuring the sky in a swirling vortex of chaos.

The angel’s laughter, a chilling melody of triumph and malice, echoed across the ravaged valley as Lael’s voice, weak and raspy, reached Kuina’s ears.

“I… I got… you - Kuina… save… the children…”

His hands, trembling with exhaustion, disappeared into the depths of his coat, and a faint green glow emanated from within. A crystalline shard materialized in his grasp, and with a final surge of strength, he **** it into Kuina’s hand.

“T-Teleport… a-activate…”

Lael’s voice faded into a whisper as a blinding green light enveloped Kuina. It wasn’t a gentle transition; it was a forceful expulsion, a **** act of self-sacrifice. There was no time for goodbyes, no room for protest. One moment she was kneeling beside her injured husband, the next she was consumed by the emerald radiance, ripped away from the battlefield and flung into the unknown.

The angel’s gaze shifted to Lael, her expression unreadable as she observed his **** act of sacrifice. For a fleeting moment, a flicker of something akin to… recognition crossed her features, a hint of empathy for the depth of his love. But it vanished as quickly as it appeared, replaced by a cold, dismissive sneer.

“You do realize...”

She said, her voice dripping with disdain.

“That action will only be in vain. A warrior such as herself should have died honorably by your side. Such an act… is cowardice.”

She tilted her head, her eyes gleaming with amusement.

“Do you truly believe she will be safe? That escaping this conflict will spare her from the inevitable? The celestial tide is rising, and no mortal sanctuary can withstand its **** for long.”

The angel descended, her movements fluid and graceful despite the devastation surrounding them. She crouched down before Lael, her touch surprisingly gentle as she caressed his chin. Her star-like eyes, distant and ancient, reflected in his own, seeming to peer into the depths of his soul. Then, with a strength that belied her delicate appearance, she forcibly pulled him upwards.

A strangled gasp escaped Lael’s lips as he was hauled to a sitting position. The movement was agonizing. A searing pain shot through his lower body, and he instinctively knew, even before looking, that the damage was far worse than he initially thought. His vision swam, and a cold sweat slicked his skin. He bit back a scream, **** to maintain some semblance of composure.

The angel’s voice was soft, almost melodic, yet it carried a chilling undercurrent of menace. She leaned closer, her breath ghosting across Lael’s face, her eyes studying him with detached curiosity.

“You look as though you’re in pain, family man.”

She murmured, her tone laced with amusement.

“Should I, end this quickly? Or prolong your suffering?”

She paused, tilting her head as if genuinely contemplating the possibilities.

“Perhaps a demonstration of what awaits those who defy the celestial order would be… instructive.”

A faint tremor ran through Lael’s body, not from pain alone, but from a primal fear that threatened to overwhelm him. He **** himself to meet the angel’s gaze, refusing to betray his terror. He wouldn’t give her the satisfaction.

The angel’s crimson lips curved into a slow, predatory smile. She raised a hand, her fingers trailing along the edge of Lael’s shattered leg, not with malice, but with a clinical detachment, as if examining a broken toy.

“Such… fragility.”

She breathed, her voice a silken whisper.

“Mortals cling to life so desperately, despite its inherent impermanence. It’s… endearing, in a pathetic sort of way.”

"Astra, stop playing with the mortal and kill him already."

A male's voice interjected. Astra’s smile faltered, her golden star eyes flashing with annoyance.

“Must you always interrupt my… observations, Orlon?”

She snapped, her voice losing its melodic quality and hardening into a sharp reprimand.

“I was merely assessing the situation.”

Before Astra could further elaborate, a surge of power erupted from the direction of the shattered barrier. A blinding flash of light momentarily eclipsed the celestial glow of the angel, and a figure materialized behind her with impossible speed. It was a male, radiating an aura of immense strength and authority. His muscular build was clearly visible even beneath the flowing robes he wore, and long, brown hair cascaded over his shoulders, framing a face dominated by sharp, defined features and a freshly shaved beard that accentuated his strong jawline.

Orlon stood before Lael, his presence radiating a protective warmth that momentarily shielded the injured adventurer from Astra’s chilling gaze. His eyes, identical to Astra’s in their celestial glow, were filled with a stern determination. A halo of golden light encircled his head, and magnificent wings, shimmering with iridescent feathers, unfurled behind him, casting a radiant glow upon the ravaged landscape. He didn’t speak, but his very posture conveyed a silent command – a clear message that Astra’s games had gone on long enough.

Astra finally turned, her crimson hair swirling around her like a fiery halo. Her expression was a mask of barely concealed fury.

“Orlon.”

She hissed, her voice laced with venom.

“You dare interfere with my judgment?”

She took a step forward, her hand instinctively reaching for the thorned staff that served as her weapon.

“This mortal is responsible for slaying my Exion. He must pay dearly, with every ounce of blood in his body."

Orlon didn’t flinch under Astra’s furious gaze. His stance remained unwavering, a bulwark against her celestial wrath.

“Xeion’s **** was a consequence of his own actions, Astra.”

He said, his voice resonating with a quiet authority that seemed to dampen her fiery temper.

“He sought to disrupt the natural order, to impose his will upon realms that were not his to control."

He lowered his gaze to Lael, a flicker of concern crossing his features as he assessed the extent of his injuries.

“Your suffering ends here, warrior.”

Orlon said, his voice softening with a hint of compassion. He extended a hand towards Lael, a gentle golden light emanating from his fingertips.

“Allow me to ease your pain.”

With the touch from the celestial being, Lael’s body began to shimmer with a soft glow. Slowly, his body crumbled to golden dust. Ultimately the celestials touch had killed him, but indeed put an end to his suffering before Astra had chance to have her way with him.

"So compassionate toward the race that deserves the most suffering."

Astra murmured under her breath, unamused by her comrades actions.

"Do not fret Astra, the war has only just begun. Besides, you too were moved by his action to save his beloved. Even if it was fleeting, she too will die like him aswell."

Orlon said calmly.

"Come, we have much to do..."
