Well. You were a bad detective. You did your best and sometimes would even forgo the money if the client was ****. It didn't seem to matter that match though. Your reputation was in the gutter and only **** people would engaged your services. So the vicious circle continued. Somehow every single one of your pursuits in your hometown always somehow ended in a disaster.

First was a failure to catch the cat that ran away with the owner's diamond brooch wrapped around his neck. Not only you lost a good set of clothes chasing the bastard through the rose bushes, but in the end, the cat just returned home and the owner refused to pay a dime.

Then you slept with a daughter of a patriarch who hired you to bring her back from a deadbeat lover (you could say she had a type). The daughter finally got disowned and ended up as a whore. You got beaten up by her brothers.

And finally, a failed affair that resulted in getting chased out of town. She assured you that the spouse knew about it and was open to it. Maybe you will even do a ménage-à-trois. Turns out they were told you were a dance instructor.

So much bad luck – it couldn't be a coincidence surely? Maybe you should go to the seer or consult a witch or a fortune teller. There were plenty of Romani roaming around, maybe ask one of them?

You flicked the cigarette letting the ash fall on the floor. The previous tenant didn't seem to believe in ashtrays either, as the floor was covered with ash. You will need to clean it up. Not like you could afford a maid.

Still, as shitty as this place was it seemed like finding it was the first good thing that happened to you in a while. Maybe that's a sign that your luck was changing? You thought as you looked around the place. Jacek really helped you on this one. You made sure to repay him for it when the opportunity presented itself.
