[Sana and Shiro are based on the Japanese Giant River Salamander and DNA from several of our Japanese investors and their families. The Japanese Giant River Salamander has from antiquity been considered a semi-divine creature and a sign of good fortune as it indicates the surrounding land is healthy. Sana and Shiro likewise are sensitive to chemical changes in their environment and require constant care and attendance.

While Sana and Shiro were originally planned for work at the Japanese consulate in San Fransisco the project was scrapped over ethics and budget concerns. This has left the pair with rejection and abandonment issues.

Sana and Shiro have met occasionally during their Japanese cultural training and seem quite compatible psychologically, though Sana is more outspoken and aggressive than the Japanese cultural attache would have preferred. Shiro does not seem to mind though.

In terms of parenting projections, Sana would most likely take after her human side and have single births, who would not be fully mature until 18 or 21. That is the bad news, the good news is that a stable breeding program for this type of pet-people already exists in Japan, so finding mates for their offspring would not be as difficult as for some other breeds.]
