Chapter 12 by Jaysea Jaysea

Any mercy for Director Brooks?

"Mercy" is subjective.

Director Brooks studies both you and Chloe intensely. Putting his elbows on the table and clasping his hands together, he's deep in thought it seems. No doubt, he's wondering why in the world the two best scientists in Hideki disappeared without a trace, then suddenly show up the next day. You want to get this over with and have the guards infect Brooks already. However, you let Chloe lead the conversation with Brooks. Surely she's wanting to enjoy the most important part of her career.

Director Brooks simply states, "Alright, you said you were going to explain yourselves. So tell me, what the hell is going on here?"

Chloe replies with a smirk on her face.

"Well, Shaw Labs sabotaged my slime, I absorbed Dr. Walker into myself, and infected a couple of humans yesterday. And now, I'm here to do the same to you. I think it's in Shaw and Hideki's best interests to acquire a... business partnership."

Huh. Guess Chloe didn't want to draw this out any longer than she needed to. She meant business now. And a business partnership between the two competing labs sounds compelling. You think about the possibilities of all the technological progress that could be made when all the scientists and researchers are working together.

Brooks doesn't get a chance to react before Chloe orders the guards telepathically to restrain Brooks. They comply and grab him forcefully, while Brooks attempts to struggle out of the hold, cursing Shaw and the slimes in the room. The director fails as the guards, given their newfound slime strength, easily pin Brooks to the wall. Finally, he gives up, with fear in his eyes of what was to be expected next.

"What the fuck. How is any of this possible? Shaw shouldn't be able to achieve this kind of technology for another 5 years, I thought we were way ahead of them this whole time."

Chloe doesn't answer and instead rushes forward into Brooks' mouth. Brooks, still being restrained, is unable to move while Chloe spreads out through his body. You see Chloe's slime begin to cover his skin, replacing his blood and absorbing his human essence. As the slime takeover finishes, the Director's eyes roll back into his head as he shakes violently, and Chloe completes her assimilation of Director Brooks. His eyes now glow green for a moment before fading back to their original color. The guards release him and he falls to the ground, and Chloe exits his body. She reforms next to you and sits in her chair.

The conversation resumes again as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened. Brooks, now a slime, is wholeheartedly and willingly supportive of Chloe's proposition to merge Shaw and Hideki. "I think what you proposed is a fantastic idea, Chloe. However, we have many employees here that wouldn't be as understanding as I am of the strides we could make in this field. How do you suppose we make them... see things our way?"

Chloe ponders the question for a second, but you answer quickly, a brilliant idea popping in your mind. "I think it would be best if we used the slime to replace the water and other drinks at the lab. Researchers need it for experiments, the front office has a water cooler that everyone uses consistently, and the coffee shop inside could make use of it as well. It shouldn't be too hard to spread throughout the whole building in a couple days."

Chloe nods approvingly at your suggestion. "That's likely the best choice here. We can also do the same for Shaw to expedite the transition between the companies."

Brooks also nods and stands up. "Right then. We'll all do our part. I have many important meetings in here so don't worry about the logistics, I have that covered up."

You and Chloe stand up and shake hands with Brooks, and leave the office. Chloe explains that she is going to head over to see Mr. Simon Shaw himself to ensure that the process goes smoothly. "You see, Zoe, Shaw's plan was to acquire all of Hideki's technological capability and make billions off of selling its stuff to the military, but they forgot to make sure that I actually care about doing that. I have other things as mind, such as improving the human race. Once the two tech companies have merged, I'll be the real one in charge of research. I'll use the advances we make in nanite and slime research to get rid of all suffering in the world. Starvation, disease, wars, you name it. And of course, I'll enjoy myself a bit along the way."

You thought nothing of her plan and went along with it. Her reasoning seemed to make sense anyway, as being a human just didn't seem appealing to you anymore. Why would anyone stay like that when they could unlock their true potential and see the greatness of being a slime? You were happy to help.

World Domination Time?
