Chapter 1 by VargHelsing
"Another day gone". You murmur to yourself. Stuck in a perpetual state of failing and repeating courses in college, you decide to strike out and find a job, to get something of value to show your mom, or perhaps fund the cost of repeating courses yourself so she wont notice. You contacted with a game development gig that you were introduced to, by an anonymous source on the internet that are looking for freelancers and willing to pay a very good sum of money, with a catch: they know that you are modder that keep one of the "dead" MMO branch that they owned running, Exodus Heolden 11, and they want you to rip out an re purpose the infamous sex mod that has been added by the modder team since they left the branch to rot. Reluctantly, you said yes. After many long night working, twisting the system that you and you friend once created, you starting to regret it. The big corp want the revenue, but they dont want the depth. They don't want their "Payers" to linger and enjoy, they want the to rush the experience, to be addicted to it and to pay for every new high that comes. Your old friends on the project would hate you for selling out like this.
...
..
But they are the one that left you behind.
So you keep working and working. But the regret stays.
Then at last, the deed is done. You have the new version on your disk, ready to be updated. If the corp is satisfied, they will hire you to implement this to their new, updated game branch. The shinier, but lifeless implementation of the original developer that has long been replaced. You took a deep breath, and look at the game.
Maybe, just one last time?
