The Perverted Overlord

Chapter 1 by Lawless Lawless

In the year 2126 AD the world of online games was revolutionized by the game YGGDRASIL.

Named after the World Tree of Norse mythology, YGGDRASIL is a fantasy-themed open world MMORPG. YGGDRASIL captivated gamers from around the world for more than a decade for 2 distinctly immersive reasons:

-A highly customizable system consisting of more than 2000 classes for players to multiclass with, endless item drops and craftable items and equipment, fully customizable bases and NPCs to defend against attacking players, etc.
-Virtual reality. Sight, sound and limited touch. Gameplay resembles less of a videogame than a real adventure fighting against monsters and enemy players.

In YGGDRASIL there is also the possibility to establish guilds. Player characters banding together consolidating manpower and resources, guilds are also granted the privilege of constructing their own bases to hoard their wealth. Bases must also be supported with various defenses and combative NPCs to protect against enemy players that will attempt to storm one’s virtual home to plunder players of their coveted treasures.

In the history of YGGDRASIL the strongest and most grotesque guild was Ainz Ooal Gown and their base; the Great Tomb of Nazarick. To join this guild, one must fulfill three conditions:
-You must be a member of society, which means you must have a social life in RL and/or a job.
-As a hidden condition, following the original nine founders, all new prospective members must be approved by a majority vote of all existing members.
-Your character must be one of the heteromorphic races.

You see there are three categories of player races:
-Human races: humans, elves, dwarves, etc.
-Demi-human races: orcs, ogres, lizardmen, etc.
-Heteromorphic races: slimes, skeletons, vampires, devils, etc.

Heteromorphic races possess more innate abilities, strengths and weaknesses than their human and demi-human counterparts (such as a skeleton’s immunity to negative energy, but weakness to fire and holy damage) and are expected to invest levels into racial powers and growth alongside their class levels.

Heteromorphic races also typically look monstrous, which had the unfortunate consequence of ostracizing players. Some human players going so far as to create guilds with the specific purpose of hunting down and repeatedly PKing heteromorphic characters until they quit altogether in frustration.

At its peak Ainz Ooal Gown had 41 of the strongest players YGGDRASIL had ever known with a dungeon whose strength was uncontested. Not once had an enemy player managed to successfully plunder the Great Tomb of its vast riches; the closest anyone ever came to besting them was when a of 1500 players and NPCs managed to reach the 8th of the 10 floors before being stopped.

Sadly, all good things must eventually end, after a decade of being a game of great innovation and immense popularity rival companies began to make newer, fresher games that gradually drew away once loyal players to greener pastures. When cash transactions began to fall short of the cost of maintaining the virtual world’s servers and developers’ salaries, the announcement was made.

YGGDRASIL’s days were numbered. “Ragnarok” was upon them.

This is the story of those left behind and the sexy adventures they had in a world that was not at all prepared for them.'

Did he play as a lich? Or did he play as a different race?
