The Masters of Azesis

Mike liked his job at the National Museum. He was working night shifts there to finance his studies and while he had to do tours through the building from time to time, he also had a lot time to learn or do other things. Today he had another shift and while most visitors were already leaving the building as Mike stepped into the surveillance room and put his bag beside his colleague Pete, who had done the late shift.

“Hi Pete, any news?” he asked while he sat down and watched the guests moving around on the screens.

“Nothing big,” Pete answered. “The guys from the Egyptian wing put up some new sarcophagus during the day. Apparently the mummy of an Egyptian priest inside.” He pointed at one screen where the camera pointed at a newly arranged sarcophagus.

Mike nodded and looked at the screen. The sarcophagus was decorated with many signs and something was catching his attention more than usual. He had to check the sarcophagus out later.

“Hey, earth to Mike!” a female voice said and he looked over to see Nora, the other college student who was scheduled for night shift with him.

“Hi, Nora,” Mike said as he broke out of his thoughts. “How are you doing?”

“Fine,” Nora said and put her stuff on the table. “Having an exam soon, so have to learn a bit.”

“I let you two alone,” Pete said from the door. “Have a quiet night.”

The night started to be quiet but Mike caught himself starring at the sarcophagus over and over. Something was drawing him to it. “Going to make a tour,” he said and grabbed the keychain and a lamp, heading down the stairs and into the exhibition rooms. Quick he headed towards the Egyptian section and a few minutes later he stood in front of the sarcophagus.

“What is so special about you?” he asked and climbed over the barrier. The sarcophagus looked old and the symbols on it seemed to be carved into it. Slowly Mike got closer and reached his hand for it. A moment later he touched it and the symbols started to glow. A bright shine emerged from the sarcophagus and Mike could see some dark shadow shoot out of it. He turned around and opened his eyes wide from what he was seeing.
