KINGDOM OF LUVABURG

6th of September 847A.L. (After Landing)

Luvaburg is a moderately wealthy, mostly stable nation to the west of the continent, bordered to the West and North by the Ocean, to the East by the Farenfel Mountains, and to the South by the Republic of Moravia, the Leauge of Princes, the Grand Duchy of Tyrol and the Kingdom of Gerenburg.

It’s primary exports are wood, fish, wine, and agricultural goods. Most of it’s industrial or processed goods are kept for internal use or sold off by private merchants to foreign trade charters.

It also maintains a strong military with which it fights off both the threat of Northern Raiders, Orcish Warbands, and foreign invasion.

In recent history, Luvaburg only recently managed to free itself as a client state of the Shimanakura Empire, having been conquered roughly 100 years ago during the reign of the Dragon Emperor. King Arn's father died in the fighting alongside Gawain's great-grandfather, Uthor. Prior to this, the Kingdom; which has existed for almost 800 years, was founded originally by a alliance of the Northern Human Clans, and the Dwarven Kingdoms of Farenfel during their war with the valley's orignal inhabitants, the Oni. The dwarves taught these early humans advanced architecture and the means of metalurgy, which these tribes put to deadly effect, swiftly overwhelming the Oni clans and forcing them into second-class citzens under their new Dukes and Counts. Despite the unification of Luvaburg, these Oni still remain second-class citizens rarely afforded equal treatment and often herded into slums with other 'non-humans' such as the Beastfolk, Faefolk, and Monsterfolk.

The current ruler is King Arn the Old, at age 93 having ruled for 60 years it is believed that the Kings time is nigh, which has already begun to tug at the foundations of the kingdom. He has three children, Crown Prince Erik (43), Princess Danika (34), and Princess Alessia (21).

The Von Arco Family are a relatively new Noble Family in the Kingdom, tracing their lineage back to Gawain’s great-great-great-great grandfather Erik the Dragonslayer, who as the name suggests, was the last person to slay a dragon back in 675AL and saving the Kingdom from certain destruction. The King at the time awarded Erik the Noble Rank of Baron and Knight, gifting him the estate that became the Von Arco Estate today. The estate however is a meagre one near the southern border, a few hours ride away from the Forest of Oriel wherein the Wood Elves make their home. Gawain's father is Baron Frederich Von Arco (59), his mother is Yara Von Arco (nee Von Witten) (39), his eldest half-brother Gerhard (36), older half-brother Henry (34), and younger sister Isabella (18). Baron Frederich's first wife, Brunhilde, his childhood sweetheart had died of a wasting illness thirty years ago, which prompted the Baron to re-marry, this time to Yara Von Witten, the sister of Baron Gregoir Von Witten (44).

The Von Arco estate isn’t a large one with only two or at a push three dozen men-at-arms and only a few true Knights to lead them, of which three are Gawain and his brothers, and the other two are his families Personal Guards, Sir Kaine Bracchus(47) the Master of the Guard, and Sir Edward Von Anhalt (36), the Master of the Horse. In his household he also has few servants, Head of the House and Steward Thomas Thatcher (52), the attendant of Isabella Von Arco, Miss Julia Von Anhalt(19), daughter of Sir Edward, and his mothers attendant, Miss Sasha Bracchus (28), daughter of Sir Kaine. Additionally there is Warren the stable boy (15), as well as Raina Johanson (23), and Olivia Tanner(20), two girls from the village that his father hired to tend to the house as maids.

Gawain was lucky enough to have his skill with the sword recognised at an early age, and so for most of his life he has been taught in the ways of the blade, and lance, by Sir Kaine. The young son of Sir Edward has also been serving as his squire with the hopes of becoming a Knight himself one day, his name is Squire Peter Von Anhalt.

Gawain's family rule over a spattering of farm holds, and three villages in its demesne, the largest and most prosperous village being Anhalt. They however lack a Castle, and instead have a Medium Sized Manor, with a high wall and sturdy iron gate surrounding its grounds.

Of course, his father Baron Frederich serves Viscount Janus von Krukov (72); who himself is a vassal of Count Jurgen Arenberg, alongside his fellow vassals, Baron Gregoir (44), and Baron Osmund (51). Viscount Janus is an old, greedy, scheming little man that the Von Arco family has the misfortune of serving, for he is much more obsessed with personal gain than anything greater. Of the three Barons whom swear fealty to Janus, Gregoir holds the largest military, and Osmund the deepest coffers, making the Von Arco the weakest of the three.

The story opens on the journey to the village or Erlau, on the border of the Von Arco family lands. There were reports of Goblin raids on the village’s farms and farm holders, as such Gawain's father posted a Quest to the recently established Anhalt branch of the Luvaburg Adventurers Guild, which his youngest son Gawain accepted, much to his fathers chagrin. Although Gawain does not travel alone, as a fresh faced adventurer he travels with his squire, Peter, and the experienced Elven Adventurer; Elariel Ravenfeather.

In the meantime Gawain's father Frederich, and eldest brother Gerhard, are riding off to join the King in putting an end to a large Orc war band to the north, whilst Henry has taken up a position as Danika's personal guard in the Capital.
