The Abandoned House

Chapter 1 by darkblaze012 darkblaze012

“No way, Lizzy, no way,” exclaimed a petite teenager as she watched her friend walk boldly up to the last house on the lane. Rebecca Lawrence is eighteen years old, just a grade below her friend Elizabeth Maclore, and is considered something of a geek to most of the school. “Please don’t go in there!”

Rebecca's best friend, Elizabeth, fit the image of a 'popular girl' much easier than she did. Elizabeth had long blonde hair, golden tan skin, a cheerleader's body, and a friendly, if slighly bossy, personality.

Lizzy looked back down the hill at her younger friend, “C’mon Becky! You just have to do it! Don’t you want to impress James?”

Lizzy was well aware of her friend’s infatuation with the high school swim team’s own James Smithson. The athletic swimmer has gone out with quite a few girls in his time, and Rebecca has been trying to win a date with him for over a year – just a week ago, he told her he would go on a few dates with her if she could do something amazing.

That amazing thing would be surviving a night at 628 Scatterview Lane. A long abandoned house widely accepted as viciously haunted.

“Let’s go,” Lizzy urged, pressing onward. Hesitantly, Becky followed up the hill. She shivered slightly as they stood next to each other on the front step.

“AH, WHAT WAS THAT,” Becky screamed at the sharp sound of a creak. Elizabeth laughed at her friend’s jumpiness and pushed open the weak front door.

The inside of the two-story house was very dark and only the fading light by sunset pierced the dusty windows, allowing the two girls to catch glimpses of an average-sized living room, empty of everything except two couches, an armchair, a strange piano, and a large, two-door wardrobe which was oddly untouched by the years of dust covering everything else.

“We shouldn’t be in here…,” whispered Becky meekly, peering at the gloomy room through her round glasses in barely disguised fright. “…We’re trespassing, Lizzy! We should go…”

“Oh no you don’t,” answered the older girl, catching Becky’s arm as she reached for the door. “We have to stay the whole night! Besides, there’s nothing in here besides some old dust and chairs. C’mon, let’s look around…”

Lead by Elizabeth, the two girls turned on their flashlights and went from room to room, where the only thing worthy of note was the incredible amount of accumulated dust coating everything.

And, of course, the tall, imposing wardrobe, untouched by the years of dust and neglect.

Which room do they settle in?
