Saved!

The screech of brakes, the sound of metal rendering then a loud splash. Running to the bridge over the small riverbed, looking over seeing a small two door sportster already up to the top of its wheel wells. Lucky this year there been a long drought so the car comes to rest with the water level with the car windows. Making my way down to the bank, then out into the stagnant water to the car. Looking in there's a woman, not moving but clearly breathing.

I try the door, the water pressure keeps it closed. Looking around finding a large enough rock I smash in the back window. Carefully I enter the car, reach over and release her seat belt , equally carefully lifting her up and over the front seat, leaving her on the back seat while I got out. Once I was sturdy in the water I reach in and carefully hul her out, the sound of sirens coming closer with each step. Getting her to the bank of the river bed, I lay her down and check for breathing, her chest rising and falling slowly.

Soon the police are on the scene, taking a statement from me as we wait for the ambulance and paramedics to arrive

"So you have no idea who she is?" the attending officer asks me

"None, I was just out for a walk to clear my head when I heard the crash!' pointing the opposite way we were standing.

"Okay all I need is to get your name and you can continue on your way!" The officer with his pad out tells me. I give it and my address freely, Jason Holmes, 243 Queenston Heights adding a phone number without being asked before taking my leave and returning home, thinking that was it for my involvement. How wrong was my thinking!
