Reality Stone

Reality Stone

Altered Lives

Chapter 1 by holahola202 holahola202

Another person walks into the cluttered magic shop. You have been perusing the dusty shelves to pass the time, and the only other person you have seen is a short man looking out from behind the counter with a stony face. It doesn't even appear as if he's noticed you. The newcomer seems vaguely interested, and you notice that he is looking at a shelf you had rigorously searched when you first arrived. You chuckle knowing that there's nothing there, before you see him pull out a small, smooth, gleaming black stone.

You covertly watch as he looks at it for a moment, puzzled and intrigued. He approached the counter, and you move to see if the attendent says anything about the stone.

As the man approaches, the attendant's eyes alight upon what the man is holding, and his whole countenance shifts into one of trepidation mixed with excitement. You hear him whisper, "It has revealed itself, and this man is worthy?"

The man startles, then says, "What has revealed itself, and what do you mean?"

"Um," the attendant stammers, "Well, that is the reality stone. It only reveals itself to a good person in a time when they can help another, and it allows them to alter the reality of individual people by telling them what their new reality is. I have read the stories, and have in fact seen it in the hands of another many centuries ago, but never would have expected it to be here. "

The man looks disbelieving at the attendant, as do you from your somewhat concealed corner. Though the possibilities do entice you. You focus back kn the conversation to hear the attendant say," It's power is not unlimited, and more difficult changes are said to be impossible or only possible after much effort or preparation. Take it, I implore you."

The man sighs, looking at the stone, and turns to leave, his face full of disbelief. As he passes your row he happens to see you. You startle, but see that he is smiling at you. He says, "This is definitely hogwash, but you look pretty curious about it, so you can have this stone."

"I can have this...stone," you say haltingly.

"Of course, I don't need it and it looks like you want it, so I don't mind. It's free anyways." With that he hands you the stone, turns on his heel, and marches out the store. Your mind spins as you consider the possibilities if this actually works like the clerk said.

Who are you, and what's next?
