Stefan had just booted his terminal when the internal mail notified him of a meeting at Room 709. In his ten weeks at FIC he had never been summoned to a meeting. And never on the executive floor.

When he reached the elevator Anna was there.

"Whats happening?" he asked.

"They're downsizing", she replied.

On the elevator he examined Anna who was wearing the same outfit as she wore every day; her black hair was dyed a deeper shinier back, a black dress, black tights, big black boots. No one cared what the coders wore or that she had tattoos and piercings.

"If I'm fired.", he commented, "I'll be evicted, I'm so far behind in my rent. I'll be living under a bridge."

As they got out the elevator, an EA directed Stefan to a small boardroom. A very well dressed young lady sat at the table. Her hair was tight against her head, she wore glasses.

"Stand there." she ordered without looking up. She examined the folder.

"Stefan", she said as she stood up, "I am Ms Blackhouse. I am here to help as the company reorganizes. Some staff will be gone others promoted."

Her skirt was flared. well tailored and ended just above her knees. Her boots were knee high, an elegant leather with a vicious stiletto heel. He stared at her boots.

"Look at me." she commanded.

Stefan snapped to and said "Yes Miss Black"

"Its Ms Blackhouse!"

"Yes Ms Blackhouse, will I..."

She held her hand up. "I have many files to process today and no time for discussions. You will listen carefully."

Stefano stared at her boots again.

"You have been here for a short period and have not performed at a high level." She paused. "Stefan, look at me."

He raised his eyes and felt his heart racing. His breathing was shallow.

"You are laid off, you may be recalled. Its best for you to to use the opportunity to make a drastic change.

Stefan walked out, numb. Anna looked at him and said "Come home with me, I'll cheer you up. You look so miserable."
