Quarantined

Trapped with her, he frees his true feelings

Chapter 1 by Ben Rosewood Ben Rosewood

Ingrid still still has a gleeful expression on her face despite everything that's happening. The timing couldn't be worse, with COVID-19 passing around. I'm surprised they're still letting people into the country, but thankful. It's been five years since I last saw Ingrid in person when she was an exchange student and she still looks as good as she did back then. The flow of brownish-blonde hair, those blue eyes of hers, and those cute freckles. Worst of all, she's flaunting it all by wearing jeans that hug her juicy hips and a tank top that flaunts ample cleavage, having dressed more for the Australian climate rather than the Swedish one she's used to.

When she sees me, she waves as her jaw drops into a smile. She then runs up to me and gives me a hug. Not sure if we should be having this kind of physical contact, but it's still welcome all the same.

"How are you Mitch?" She says in perfect English. It was bit of a surprise to all of us that everyone learned English in Sweden, but the more you know, right?

"Great."

We leave Adelaide airport, heading to my Honda Jazz and the parking space that cost me an arm and a leg. Inside the car, she says "You alright?"

"Yeah."

"You seem nervous?"

"Yeah, well with the news and all." Truth is, that I was nervous about her. Back then, I had more than a crush on her, but I never acted on it for a variety of excuses that are now regrets. I was always the scrawny kid and I still am, plus I've never been the most socially adept. Then again, she's probably got a boyfriend or is even married at this point.

"Oh don't worry. I'm fine. Seriously."

"Good to know."

"Crazy stuff, huh?"

"Totally."

"It'll be fine. I mean wasn't Ebola supposed to wipe us out a year or two ago?"

"I guess."

"Awww, you're so cute when you're worried."

All I can manage is a nervous chuckle as I continue to drive to my place, wondering if she'll catch on what I'm really worried about.

Guess we'll have plenty to talk about in the car.
