On the surface, Silent Hill, Maine is what could be considered an archetypal, peaceful, New England tourist town for relaxation. Chiefest among its industries are tourism and, to a lesser extent, agriculture. A small town with a population below 30,000, its key industry, tourism, is in a state of steady decline. Now, it's more a small, rural retirement town.

However, Silent Hill is anything but ordinary. Although it appears at a glance to be an innocuous rural town, this has brought about an unexpected darkness of distribution. A great number of eerie and odious rumors surround the town, such as Silent Hill being built on an ancient burial ground, being a portal to Hell, people being spirited away, murderers, kidnappers, monsters, ghosts, aliens, etc.

Worse yet, Silent Hill plays host to a horrific supernatural alternate reality known as the Fog World and Otherworld, home to all manner of nightmarish monsters. It is also common to hear air-raid sirens between Fog World and Otherworld shifts.

Ordinary people with darkness and strong emotions (sins, guilt, or the inability to see the truth) in their hearts are "called" to the town. This is where you come in.

You are a visitor to Silent Hill, Maine. It is here you will face your inner demons by experiencing random shifts between the Real World, Fog World, and Otherworld.

But it seems the mysterious forces of Silent Hill are a bit more amorous than they typically are...
